Call reroute to specific voicemail box
« on: September 19, 2016, 06:22:45 PM »
Hello Fellow Telecom Ninjas, I'm looking for a pro tip here to bring this home, any input is much appreciated:

The specifics: call comes into an POTS trunk group / Trunk attributes Non-dial In Trunks Answer Point-Day is pointed at 201, which is an ONS port that I have configured to ring on a phone via a Multicall key.

The question is: how do I reroute a call into a specific voicemail box after 8-10 rings? **I am pretty sure I am close with using the System speed calls form / Call Rerouting / Call Rerouting First Alternatives, However, I can't seem to get the "Actual Number" sequence right. I've tried VM HG Pilot 300+#+mailbox extension but don't get put into the vm box, I get the option to select a voicemail box... what is the correct sequence?

Hi Geezy,
Here is what I would do/try:
1) Create an extension and set the level to "Trusted".
2) Create your intended VM Box. (Ensure it is tied to the "Trusted" extension)
3) Call forward "Always" the "Trusted" extension to the voicemail pilot.
4) In the "Call Reroute First Alternative" pick an unused number and point it to the "Trusted" extension.
5) In Call Reroute, find your group and point the First Alternative to the "Trusted" extension.
6) Test.

FYI, entering in a pound (#) in the system speedcall form doesn't work.  :(

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
-Iron

irongladiator- thanks for the quick reply!

Let me add some details here and see if this changes the programming requirements:

My inbound lines ring to ONS extension 201 which rings to about 10 phones on Multicall keys and currently don't forward anywhere (day time live answer set up). The goal is to get calls to this ONS 201 to reroute directly into an already existing mailbox 217 (which is tied to phone extension 217) after 8-10 rings.

The easiest way to direct a call to a particular mailbox is create a 'Name Tag' type Hunt Group.

Create the Hunt Group number as the mailbox number you want to go to prefix with a *, you then call reroute always this (or forward) to VM.
e.g. to send a call to mailbox 1234

Create Name Tag Hunt Group *1234
Forward or Reroute Always to VM Pilot

You would then send your call to *1234 (HG) instead of the VM Pilot and it should get you mailbox 1234

That's a cool trick!  8) Learning something new everyday!

Cool.

Can I just ask - does it have to be a Hunt Group? Can it be a phantom extension?

It doesn't work for me anyway - do I need something special in the CoS?

It hits NuPoint and asks me "Please enter a mailbox number"

If it's Nupoint, give the Nametag a number without the asterisk, and go to the mailbox and choose the advanced option. Add this new number as an alternate extension.

Actually, it does work, it was the way I was testing it that was wrong - if I ring my *1234 directly it doesn't go to the mailbox, but if I ring 1234(forwarded to *1234) it works fine.

I can't use the alternate extension because they already have a number in that. (They have 2 numbers being forwarded to this number right now).

The customer is very confused and frustrated about forwarded numbers getting VM messages.
"We forwarded his number last week, but he keeps getting voicemails".
I'm very sympathetic with their crankiness - it seems like a very silly bit of design and I'm not at all happy about having to indulge in piles of reconfiguration every time they just want to forward somebody's calls.
It seems very logical to me that if they want to forward a user's calls, they also do not want messages left for the absent user.

This is some really old school stuff going back many years when the NuPoint was Centigram.
This is still possible:
Forward the call into a Broadcast mailbox.
The Mailbox sends the message to everyone who is responsible for it.
As soon as one person listens to it, it removes it from everyone else's mailbox.

I think you can have at least 4 alternate extensions
