Funky message notification
« on: May 10, 2017, 01:09:26 PM »
I have a user at x1762 that's getting a message notification for x1180.  I assumed MB1180 was set to tell x1762 when it had a message, but that's not the case, it's set to x1180 as it's supposed to be.

Other than the "message notification phone", where should I look?

Did you leave a message in mailbox 1180 and check extension 1762 yourself to confirm the behavior?

Most common thing I see described this way is if station 1180 is leaving a call-back message for 1762 by mistake.  Does the display say message from 1180 or VMail from 1180.  People sometimes stumble into leaving a call back message at another station, which basically tells that station to call him back.  Dialing feature code 368 at sta 1762 should cancel the message.

It's a VM...the display on the screen says "Message from MB 1180"

I haven't tried to duplicate the issue, I'll try now

Confirmed, I can duplicate the issue by leaving a VM for x1180 (message now says 2 messages for MB1180 on x1762)

cholzhauer,

A message notification can be from any device on the system, but it is typically just the voice mail system that does it. So, since you have confirmed that x1180 is not performing a Leave Message for x1762 then it would be that MB 1180 is leaving the message for x1762; not really possible since it should be an Associated Mailbox to x1180.

My first thoughts on this are that the database is corrupted somehow. The first thing I would do is verify whether the mailbox is associated or not.

Go to View > On-Line Monitor and select it. The right-hand pane will true a dark grey color to let you know you are in that mode.

Next go to Voice Processor > Devices > Mailboxes and look for MB 1180 and verify if it is associated or not. Since On-Line Monitor is turned on a 3rd field will show up that says Associated with entries of Yes or No. Anytime there is a mailbox with the same extension as a phone it is by default Associated; if it isn't then it is corrupted. If the mailbox is not Associated with x1180 then delete it and recreate it. You can try to fix it manually, but I would say that I have only had a 50% success rate doing it that way; I only delete and recreate anymore.

So, if the mailbox is Associated then it will not allow you to make changes to Message Notification Phone and it will be stuck on x1180 unless On-Line Monitor is turned on; typically it is turned off.

The next thing I can think of is that you have Phone Manager setup to notify multiple phones.

The last thing I can think of is that you have Remote Messaging turned on MB 1180 and it is manually sending a Remote Notification to x1176 to light the message lamp; this is probably not the case as it rarely works.

Thanks,

TE

I have verified that MB1180 is associated

I'm not familiar with Phone Manager...is that a software product?

How would I examine Remote Messaging to see if it was the one causing the problem?

Cholzhauer,

You know you seem to always come up with some interesting issues. The next thing I would do is have x1762 or x1180 go in and clear out all of their messages. Then I would delete the mailbox and recreate which should solve the problem as it is most likely corrupted.

Phone Manager is the client portion of the Mitel Communications Server (MCS) which used to be called Xarios. It is a great product that adds some functionality to the MiVO-250 product.

Thanks,

TE

I see no reason to post the easy issues  ::)

That was my next step...I see that MB1180 has two new messages, so I want to make sure they don't need them before I remove the MB

Cholzhauer,

Hold on, you deleted the mailbox and the problem persists; something doesn't smell right in Denmark. If you dial x1180 and x1176 whose phone rings?

If you leave a message for x1176 whose phone does it light?

DND ON could be right in that x1176 is an associated device with x1180 through DEE; that would light both phones.

Thanks,

TE

If I dial x1762 I get the guy at x1762, if I dial x1180, I get the guy at x1180, so no issues there

If I leave a message for x1762, the light is lit on x1762

I've never see DEE light two phones before, but I guess it's worth looking into.  I'll check there next

Is it possible that there's an off-node mailbox lighting the lamp?
