Be sure your cell VM requires a password

Ok, I know I'm breaking my rule about explaining hacks but I think this is kind of important.

My cell company changed my voice mail so that it didn't require a password to retrieve my messages.
I occurred to me that this would be an incredibly easy hack to break into my own vm.

Depending on your carrier and type of trunks this works - I know, I tried it.

Simply go to the associated number directory form and change the CPN for your desk phone to match the cell you want to hack.
Now just call it.  When it rolls to VM you're in.

So, be sure your cell phone voice mail requires you to enter a password.

Yeah that is what is at the heart of the Cell phone scandal that was recently going on. This is an option that can be changed in your voicemail under personal options.

Its a little different here in phone hacking central (AKA the UK). The service providers dont allow you to send a CLI that it not part of the ISDN you are using they strip it at network level. Although I must say not sure about SIP.

Depends on the carrier here.
Some you can ISDN you can do it with, as in ours, but I'm pretty sure it will never do it with SIP..

It will do it with SIP depending on carrier restriction. Good joke to play on the spouse is change the CPN to the dreaded in laws.

  Wow - I'm pretty surprised with this new "feature" they didn't confirm that the call was coming from their own network.  Oh well...
