Programming for 988

Just working on getting our system setup for the 988 requirements.  I have it working for the most part, but seem to have an 8 second delay before it actually connects.  I know with 911, there isn't a delay like that.  When I dial 988 from a cell phone, or even from my home phone, 4 seconds to connect max, so any idea what I'm doing wrong here?  Essentially, I know enough about the phone system (MCD3300) to do the tasks I normally do, but messing with ARS is something I haven't had to do before.  I looked at how 911 was configured in ARS and setup a digits dialed plan for 988 to be the same.  Like I said, it *works*, but that 4 seconds could be problematic.

Is 988 expressly stated in ARS Digits Dialed? If not it may be waiting to match another dialing sequence before timing out and sending 988 to the trunks.

Yes, it is.

This is setup exactly how my 911 entries are setup.

If it goes through faster when you dial 988# then the problem is with a digit conflict and it's waiting to see if you're going to dial more digits.  I suspect the problem is you have ARS digits that is 9+<7 more digits>.

You can shorten the timeout in COS by adjusting your interdigit timeout.

I did think of that as well, but hitting # after makes no difference.

I believe it is by design from Mitel to avoid accidental dialing like 911 if you dial just 911 you will get 5 second delay before it rings this delay is there for user to disconnect the call before the operator receives it. Try  9911 and 9988 and see if you get connected.

Think not, but if system is set to use a 9 to dial out there will be conflict dialing that might otherwise not happen.

If you're just routing 988 with no leading outbound digit, you're likely still hitting a confict. Easy way to check would be to pop into Maintenance Commands and do a DGT TRACE 988 and see what it tells you.

There is no requirement to allow 988 to be dialed without a leading digit, the FCC has ruled that KARIS Law does not apply to 988, so you can force a leading digit to call it.
