The Vanishing Handset
« on: July 29, 2022, 08:38:45 AM »
Has anyone done a deployment or update where handset endpoints have been entirely eliminated in favor of softphones? If so what has user feedback been like?

I know of a few companies that have abandoned desk phones for Teams.
But I only know of one person personally that I could ask.  He was quite happy with it.

It caught my attention last week because I had users on both sides of the coin.

ZuluAlpha,

We are in the process of having our own Mobile Softphone app created for our hosted customers that want to just use their Mobile for all calls.

Thanks,

TE

I think it will lead to chaos for 911 if they move around and still want to be compliant

Outside of mobile, which could force the call through the device instead of softphone, I'd like to see a daily popup to enter a physical address of a worksite to at least get some info to first responders for this very reason.

We transitioned about 100 employees to hybrid office/teleworkers and gave them softphones for their laptops. No one really cared, as none were heavy phone users.

Our real teleworkers are heavy phone users, mostly ACD agents, do they get a phone.

ZuluAlpha,

I thought the address change was part of Mitel's Ray Baum act changes on their softphone.

I haven't installed on yet so I am not positive on that account.

Thanks,

TE

DND ON,

I know we just upgraded a call center at the beginning of the Pandemic and they all moved to using MiCollab Client with Softphone and Ignite.

As far as I know they haven't changed back nor have they returned to their offices.

Thanks,

TE
