Configure SIP Account on 5320e while in SIP mode
« on: December 23, 2019, 09:59:39 PM »
Can anyone help with what I assume is a relatively simple task but for the life-of-me, I cannot find the answer anywhere.

So far I have talked to Mitel Support twice, some of their channel partners, searched this forum, Google, watched videos, read suggestions and comments, read all available manuals on the phone – NOTHING!

There were a few hints that what I want to do can be done, but no definite instructions that worked. What I want to do is simple – Configure a SIP account on a 5320e IP Phone.

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE

1) Factory Reset phone to clear all previous settings
2) Placed into Teleworker mode and connected to a publicly accessible server for Firmware update
3) Firmware was updated to Release: 6.5 on Hardware Ver: A.01 Date: 2018
4) Teleworker mode removed
5) Mode changed to SIP
6) Connected to LAN where DHCP assigned IP/GW/DNS

WHAT HAS BEEN TRIED

1) Blue Menu button to enable or configure services (can only change font size)
2) Enter programing mode (no options to configure SIP account)
3) Port Scan on LAN to find IP and ports (only 23 Telnet & 110 POP are open)
4) Try HTTP access with browser and units IP address (waste of time, port is not open)
5) Try access via Telnet (All default usernames: admin/Admin and passwords: 5320e/5320/hello do not work)
6) As per Mitel Support’s suggestion, try enabling port 80 for HTTP access while in Minet mode (Not possible. No buttons work unless phone is connected to Minet service first)

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE

1) Access phone via Telnet and enable port 80 for HTTP access to configure SIP
2) Access phone by keypad and screen to configure SIP
3) Some other “Magic-Bullet” to configure SIP

Okay. This is a SIP phone that appears impossible to configure to a SIP account unless it involves a Minet service. Am I right or am I missing something?

If anyone can help with how to achieve this, I would love to hear from you.

In the past you just plug the phone in and switch it to SIP mode and then get it's IP address and browse to it and login with phone model and admin (i.e. 5320e//admin) - nothing more fancy then that.

At some point the phone started shipping with firmware that turned off the http server and left no way to enable it and then you had to downgrade the firmware to the last one that had it on by default. I've seen someone on here link to a tftp site that will work but I didn't save it. I'm sure someone will pipe in.

I think you need to go back to a 6.3 firmware version as the web access has been closed. You can get them from my google drive share if you check some posts in this section

Found the solution – Thanks to everyone who helped!

Now just because in the future others may have the same problem after updating the 5XXX series IP Phone firmware, here is exactly what you need to do to fix your phone so you can access and configure it via HTTP (port 80).

IMPORTANT: Do not update your firmware to beyond Version 06.05.00.08 or you WILL lose the ability to access HTTP access to your phone! If you have already done this, you may have found your way to this page so here is the full solution...

ON THE COMPUTER
1) You will need to downgrade your Firmware to 06.05.00.08 or earlier
2) Download the firmware package provided by johnp (GM) from https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KM8i94DE7sOXnyGPLTHeCcycG-mvxpXU/view?usp=sharing
3) Download SolarWinds TFTP server from https://www.solarwinds.com/free-tools/free-tftp-server
4) Install TFTP server onto a system connected to the same LAN as the phone
5) Create exceptions for the following two applications in your firewall (Windows example)
    a) C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\TFTP Server\SolarWinds TFTP Server.exe
    b) C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\TFTP Server\TFTPServer.exe
6) Open the “tftproot.zip” downloaded in 2)
7) Extract the contents (not the tftproot folder) to C:\TFTP-Root which holds the data for the TFTP server
8) Run SolarWinds TFTP server. You can tweak this if you feel the need, but it’s not required
9) Find the IP address of the computer running the TFTP server and write it down. You will need it

ON THE PHONE
1) Power on holding down Volume UP/DOWN buttons
2) On Network Settings press # (No)
3) On Network Parameters press #
4) On Hardware Config press #
5) On Phone Mode press * (Yes)
6) On Protocol press *
7) On Phone Mode press * (Change)
8) On Phone Mode press * (Minet)
9) On Phone Mode press # (Accept)
10) On Store Changes press *
11) On Reboot Now press *
12) While phone is rebooting, hold down the “7” key
13) After the phone has booted, On Config Teleworker press *
14) On Delete/New press # (New)
15) On IP Address Type press * (IPV4)
16) Enter the IP address collected at 9) in section On The Computer
17) Press Volume DOWN button to proceed
18) On Store Changes press *
19) Phone will now reboot, connect to your local TPTP server, download the firmware and install it
20) After the firmware is installed, the phone will reboot  so hold down Volume UP/DOWN buttons
21) On Network Parameters press #
22) On Hardware Config press #
23) On Phone Mode press * (Yes)
24) On Protocol press *
25) On Phone Mode press * (Change)
26) On Phone Mode press 0 (SIP)
27) On Phone Mode press # (Accept)
28) On Store Changes press *
29) On Reboot Now press *
30) After the phone has booted it will be in SIP mode
31) Press the Volume UP/DOWN buttons then let Volume UP button go
32) While still holding the Volume DOWN button, type 2,3,4 on the number pad and let go of the Volume DOWN button
33) On Network Settings press #
34) On Network Parameters press *
35) On View Current Values press *
36) On View Current Network press *
37) Using Volume DOWN key, scroll to Phone IP Address and write it down

ON THE COMPUTER
1) Open a Browser
2) Type the IP Address collected at 37) above into the address bar and press ENTER
3) Enter the Username admin and the password (model number of your phone, eg. 5320e)
4) You should now be logged into your phone in SIP Mode

Hopefully, this works to help you regain HTTP access to your Mitel 5XXX series IP phone. There may be some slight variation in the instructions for some models, but these should be enough information to help you get it done.

I've been having the same problem and came upon this thread - instead of going back in firmware, I downloaded the 06.05.00.26 load and set the phones TFTP server as above (but using the new firmware).

To my amazement, the webserver was up an running.

Just one additional thing - it may have been a fluke initially...

To turn on the webserver...

setup your TFTP server
in the TFTP root add MN_Generic.cfg

In MN_Generic.cfg add the following, note the Model="5320e", you need a section for each phone model that you want to enable the webserver for.

<Parameter Model="5320e">
   <tftp_upgrade>2</tftp_upgrade>
   <http_upgrade>0</http_upgrade>
      <tonecode>EN</tonecode>
   <sntp>pool.ntp.org</sntp>
   <auth_method>2</auth_method>
   <auth_method>1</auth_method>
   <tonecode>US</tonecode>
   <http_task_enable>1</http_task_enable>
   <https_task_enable>0</https_task_enable>
   <httpport>80</httpport>
   <httpsport>443</httpsport>
   <telnet_task_enable>1</telnet_task_enable>
</Parameter>

Hope this helps someone else suffering through activating the webserver

D

You're a bloody hero. I have been all. over. the web. looking for a solution to this.

Incidentally, how do I save all my settings so that I can downgrade my phone but also make sure that when it boots up, I can log into my teleworker job and go about my day as normal?

This is a fantastic resource! Like many others I guess I have struggled to configure a 5330 as a simple SIP phone. However the required firmware is somewhat elusive - any one care to share / pm me etc?

Many thanks

Does anyone still holds a copy of this firmware or can point me in the right direction to find it?

Hi, I'm still a little new to this kind of thing. When trying to downgrade my Mitel 5330 version do I use all the files in the drive link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1H1Im6Qp7DsJNAYY2TQ8IrL99tI2iXSTj?usp=sharing or do I only use one file?

You would setup an TFTP share with those files (all of them is normal, but the phone actually uses about 8 of them I think, its been a long time) and point the phone to the TFTP server, it will pull the files it needs.
