different call appearance.
« on: September 20, 2010, 11:37:46 AM »
Is there a way to force a call to use a different line.  Lets say my number is 2222 and I want people to see me as 2221.  If I add an appearance of 2221 to my phone can I force that line to be active when I pick up the handset without pushing the button every time?

Thanks
Mark

I think that you could do this using a personal ring group. Make 2221 the PRG number and add 2222 as a member. I think that when this is done all members CLID shows the PRG number instead of the actual extension number.

Haven't tested, just guessing.

Mattmayn,
That sounds like a workable solution.   Any chance you can squeeze the time out to test?
That's one thing I'm short on is time.
BTW: looking to add 6 Nortel techs - anybody lurking?

I would have time to test this but I am a little unsure about how it works.  I have a couple extensions I can test with.  Do phones need built and then applied to the personal ring group or do I build the personal ring group and then apply the extensions to phones?

Thanks
Mark

Well I know for sure the phones have to be built 1st.   Then the ring group.
After that, I defer to Mattmayn.   Sounds like he's played a bit with it.

First off it does work. I tested by calling from my iPhone that is 1070 (Bria's softphone app rocks by the way) and I called a 5360 which displayed my desk phone ext (1005) and my tel dir name (M. Maynard) at the top. On the button appearance of the number I called it does show the name and number associated with my softphone (not sure if it is possible to change this).  I assume that you wouldn't see the other number on a non-paperless label phone.

Programming:

Must have a multiline-set or hotdeck user programmed (1005 in my case, 2221 in question). Then create the PRG with 2221 as the PRG number. Then add the memebers that you want to ring and show (2222). You have a few other options that you can change if you so disire.

You also gain the "Handoff" capabilities that are available in a PRG, which I have not tested.

Hope this helps.

Played with the handoff feature this morning. Simply program a "Handoff" button on a set and you can push and pull calls from any available PRG device. It takes all of two seconds to set up and learn to use.

There is a long list of restrictions but if it doesn't work you may meet one of those. ie in a conference, one device is an attendant, things like that.

Thanks for all the tips.  I will spend time doing each one and see which I like best.  It has been fun converting from a different phone system platform.

Thanks again for the tips.
