NuPoint portal login...what is portal?
« on: February 16, 2017, 03:37:28 PM »
I have just installed a NuPoint on a MICollab server and it is working well. This makes three NuPoints I have placed within a four year period and none of them will allow me to connect to the server-manager via VPN, but all three will allow me to try and login through the portal.

The issue is, I configured this MiCollab server three weeks ago and I don't recall seeing the option for portal login. Where access does portal actually allow you in these servers?

Thanks, Jim

Try an experiment:

Define your local network as 10.0.0.0/8 or 192.168.0.0/16 or 172.XX.0.0/16 (depending on your networks).
I'm betting that will allow you to access it via your VPN.
That opens a big hole in your security but you'll see where the issue is and be able to narrow it down.

Depending on your VPN you could also put itn the your remote PC's net work and try that.

That would be an interesting experiment, however the NuPoints currently reside behind customer proprietary networks, with VPN access through either Barracuda or Sonicwall.

My largest curiosity is...what does portal access get you, for when I configured the last MiCollab/NuPoint sever a couple of months ago I don'r recall setting a portal login, but that is what I see when I try to access the NuPoint remotely.

Thanks, Jim

When on the VPN are you trying to connect to the FQDN/server-manager or IPaddress/server-manager?

Most likely because when you on the VPN your IP address is unique and not in the list of addresses or subnets allowed access to the management console in MSL.

FYI the private range for 172. network is 172.16.0.0/12 This should cover the private address space. RFC1918

So extract from RFC1918
Code: [Select]
The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of the IP address space for private internets:

     10.0.0.0        -   10.255.255.255  (10/8 prefix)
     172.16.0.0      -   172.31.255.255  (172.16/12 prefix)
     192.168.0.0     -   192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

Thanks for all the answers, but I am still wondering...what does Portal Login do? I don't recall setting that field up when I built the MiCollab server.

Thanks, Jim

The portal login is for end users to manage their NuPoint. They can manage their own Call Director and  mailbox.
server-manager is for administration of the server.

Oh, that;s right...it's the TUI login area...I knew that (when I had a younger mind)

Thanks, Jim
