Old employee forward to replacement

Seems like a pretty straightforward request.  In the past, I've always just set the old employee's phone to forward to the new person for some period of time.  I just realized that when doing this, if the new person doesn't answer the phone, the call never goes to the new person's voicemail.  It just rings forever.

I saw some posts about creating a Call Routing Application, but I'm not sure that solves the problem.  I'd like the new person's phone to ring (or if they have DEE turned on, go to mobile) and then go to voicemail.  Doesn't seem it should be difficult to do or a unique question, but I couldn't find an answer in the archives.

dbetlow,

You will need to break the connection to the timers associated with the other extension. The Call Routing Announcement or a Hunt Group does just that so you can send a caller directly to the new extension instead of just manually forwarding.

Not sure how to do that...

Anyway, I got it working by forwarding to the new employee's outside number.  This calls the user and goes to the new user's voicemail if unanswered.  The only drawback, is it it no longer says forwarded from X.

dbetlow,

You do realize that you are using two phone lines for each call that comes through that way. Try creating a Call Routing Announcement to break the timers from the old extension.

Go to Voice Processor > Devices > Applications

Single Right-click on the open grey area of the application side.
Select Create Call Routing Announcement
Pick the next available number within the range currently used and select OK
Label the Description "Forward From Ext. {number}"
Label the Username whatever would make sense. This will be used to show Transfer From {Username}

Double Left-click on the Extension of the new Call Routing Announcement
Double Left-click on the Day and Night Greetings and remove the default "Voice Mail Greeting" recording
Double Left-click on Digit Translation
Set Timeout Action to Transfer to Extension
Set Timeout Transfer Destination to the new users extension

At the old users phone forward all calls to the new Call Routing Announcement.

Calls will now get answered by the Call Routing Announcement and immediately get transferred to the new extension that will see Transfer From {username}.

Side note: is there an easier way to set the forward for the old user besides going to their old phone?  I ended up resetting the old user's portal password and doing it there, but it seems like as an admin, there should be an easier way.

The term "easier way" is kind of misleading since I find both ways you stated to be fairly simple and therefore easy. There are other ways to manipulate call flows on a phone if that is what you are asking, but whether you would consider them to be easier is purely speculative.

1. Directly from phone use the Forward Feature Code (Default=355)
2. If they are setup as a User then through their Web Portal
3. Using the Remote Programming Feature Code (Default=359)
4. Changing their System Forwarding to forward immediately to a new location.
5. If only worried about Direct Call from outside via DID then redirect the DID to the new location

Perhaps easy wasn't the best word to describe my question...

Some users are remote so I don't have physical access to their phone or their phone has been packed away. 

I wasn't aware of the (x)359 option, but that requires that I know their passcode.  I suppose I could reset it like I did with the user's portal page.

Thanks for the additional options. 

Seems like Mitel would just have a forward option that works from the admin console, rather than a workaround with a CRA.

You can also remotely forward a phone via the Configuration Assistant.

Good one, I always forget about the Configuration Assistant! Of course they may not have one on their system, but it is easy to setup if they are at a high enough software version.
