Teleworker IP address change
« on: August 22, 2016, 07:59:00 AM »
I have a question in regards to the Teleworker.  We had an issue last Friday where our IP address to the outside world suddenly changed.  The logs showed a change at 6:30 am when it looks like the application goes through a morning restart.  There were two lines that indicated an Old IP and New IP.
The configuration file for the IP address indicates that the file is generated by the Mitel Networks SME server.  Is this a server that Mitel controls and the Teleworker connects to?  Is this similar to how the system checks the license?
Thank you,

Mark

There is no Mitel controlled server that will change your IP.
My guess is what happened is that your TW server is setup to use DHCP.
You lease expired and it called for an new lease and got a new IP.

You have not assigned a static IP.
Some ISPs will force a change of your IP address.
The next thing I would do here is to see if you can get a static IP from your carrier so it won't expire and keep doing this to you.

Ralph,

     Thank you for the information.  Yes, we have a static IP and set accordingly.  It was just interesting that it switched from a real world IP to an internal 10.x.x.x address.

Interesting... if your MBG is in "DMZ" network configuration, MBG does use the ip addess, detected by AMC when msl syncs, as the "public" ip address.

If it got changed to some internal value, then this is an AMC issue and should be reported immediately to Mitel product support, as it might affect other customers.

You're syncing to the production AMC? I know that Mitel has a short issue with their load balancer that would have caused that, but it was quickly noticed and fixed.

Is this an IP within your own networks?

Here is the log file indicating the change to the IP address.  The 10.x.x.x is not within the internal IP scheme:

     Aug 19 06:30:06 xxxvmbg /etc/e-smith/events/sync-perform/S55sync-perform[26668]: /home/e-smith/db/network-services: OLD sysconfig=configuration|MaxUsers||PublicIP|24.9x.xxx.xxx
     Aug 19 06:30:06 xxxvmbg /etc/e-smith/events/sync-perform/S55sync-perform[26668]: /home/e-smith/db/network-services: NEW sysconfig=configuration|MaxUsers||PublicIP|10.44.58.250

The following is in the configuration file:

     # DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE.
     # This file is automatically maintained by the Mitel Networks SME Server
     # configuration software.  Manually editing this file may put your
     # system in an unknown state.
     #
     # updated: Fri Aug 19 06:30:06 2016
     mbg=service|desc|Mitel Border Gateway (MBG)|expiry|No expiry|status|Subscribed
     noc_sync=service|desc|Server activation and synchronization|expiry|No expiry|status|Subscribed
     registration=registration|ServiceAccountDesc|Mitel Border Gatway|servicePanel|registration|status|enabled
     sync=override|SyncFrequency|24|SyncHour|06|SyncMinute|30|status|enabled
     sysconfig=configuration|MaxUsers||PublicIP|10.44.58.250
     teleworker=service|MaxRemoteSets|32|desc|Teleworker Solution|expiry|No expiry|status|Subscribed
     web_proxy=service|desc|MBG: Web Proxy|expiry|No expiry|status|Subscribed

My question would again be about the Mitel Networks SME Server, is this a Mitel server that would hold this file and setting information?  Would this file be downloaded to the box?

yeah, looks like you got hit with the AMC load balancer issue.

You should report this to product support so they know it was customer affecting.
