Silent emergency alarm
« on: June 22, 2010, 03:15:43 PM »
I would like to program a silent alarm button on a 5330 Ip phone. The button should ring other 5330 IP phones in different departments.
Programming a button that triggers a huntgroup with some stations in it is not a problem, but the alarm button should be silent. When I press the button I (logically) get a dial tone. This is what I need to avoid.

I'm curious to see if anyone has a suggestion for you. I know we've tried to do something similar in the past, and were unable to find an acceptable solution.

What we tried today is to program a headset button and an emergency button. There isn't a headset connected to the ip station. When you first activate the headset option and then the alarm button there isn't a dial tone.
Is there a way to build some kind of macro to combine these to functions?

What we ended up doing was using an unpublished DID.
This DID was set as an emergency type route.
Then we put a speed dial key on everyone's phone to that particular DID.
We then had the DID ring directly to an information only voicemail box. This way when someone presses the "Emergency" key, it rings into that informational voicemail box. The act of calling the DID triggers the an emergency hunt group, and notifies the needed parties that someone has initiated the emergency call.

This wouldn't really work for you though, because the initially ringing of the DID would be heard by the initiated caller.

An interesting request.
I would assume that for some reason the user feels the need to send an alarm but doesn't want anyone to know it was done.

I'm processing out loud here so bear with me.
It's not going to be to a hunt group because you'll hear ringing.
You didn't say if the people this ring to needs to be able to listen in.

You could accomplish this with an emergency hunt group and some very creative programming but it would just alert people to a problem with out them being able to listen in.
Here's what you do, take an analog loop start CO port and connect it to a power source that will connect 24vdc.   Then program an emergency ARS route to hit that trunk.   The trunk will only give battery (silence) and the emergency hunt group members will all be alerted.

Ralph, I like your idea, but let me see if I can build off it for a second and get your opinion.

What if you looped an unused LS port with its own trunk group to an unused ONS port that was set as a non-busy extension?

This would allow the call to go out the emergency route, trigger the emergency alert HG, and ring into something that would presumably be silent.

It's been a long time but I thought there was some type of audio feedback.  Ringing or tone or something.   That's why I suggest just sending it to battery.

Wow, quick reply's. Thanks for that!

There is no need to listen in to the alarm notification. A trigger to some stations is enough.

Could you just do a CDE speed call to an emergency route CO trunk that is pointed to a CO silence test number or milliwatt test number?

Good thing to try.  That may work if (1) the co has a silence number.   (2) We can figure out what the number is.  (3)the silence number doesn't give a short ring burst.
Do you know how to figure out what the silence number is?

I have used this setup and it work perfectly.
But by doing this, when someone dial 911 or the silent alarm speedial, there is no way to know what they dial immediatly.  If they dial the silent alarm number, we need to send the security, but if they dial 911, we need to send different people.  Do you have another great idea?

Not off the top of my head.   The problem is you need silence when hitting the button.
I suppose you could set up a rather complicated relay system where when the trunk is seized it will trip a relay, the relay trips an analog port that rings down to a different hunt group.   But that would be pretty a complicated set up and I wouldn't expect a lot of techs to be able to work their way through it.

Thinking outside the box (and I don't know if this can be done) but when you sieze a line you can set it to no second dial tone and really the dial tone is a confidence tone anyway. Just wondering if you could find that 'silent' tone and allocate it a button that rings a hunt group. So you get  a silent dial BUT you will of course then get ringing when the call connects....
