Analog phone and conferencing
« on: May 27, 2016, 12:49:44 AM »
So I have a Polycom analog phone which has a "Conference" button.
I don't know if this has ever worked on the Mitel controllers. (I suspect not).

The procedure in the Polycom manual is:
 - ring first number
 - press "conference" (First caller is automatically placed on "Hold")
 - ring second number
 - press "conference"

What actually happens is:
 - ring first number
 - press "conference" - first call is released.

I guess this could conceivably be a CoS option, but the analog device has the same CoS as the Mitel handsets, so I don't suppose it is restricted by CoS.

What I'm guessing is happening is that the Polycom "Conference" button is sending a feature access code which doesn't mean anything to the 3300 (or rather, it means, "hang up").

So I'm thinking I need to do one of two things:
1. figure out which FAC the 3300 *would* understand and then figure out how to change the Polycom "conference" button to that instead
or
2. figure out which FAC the Polycom is sending and configure the 3300 to understand it

Has anybody solved this issue before? Or something similar?

Pretty sure the Conference key on these things is just a hookswitch flash...

That shouldn't hang up the call though, should it?

Depends on the ons timers and COS settings... And the phone may have a configurable flash duration timer.

In Australia our hookflash timer is around 90ms I know overseas it can be as high as 600ms.
If this is the case on the phone then it will disconnect the call. There is normally a setting on the phone (maybe DIP switches) that will allow the flash timers.
Anything from 50ms - 120ms should trigger it.

OK, that's very interesting info.

Obviously, these Polycom units have been given a default config for sale in Australia - they come out of the box with the "flash" timer set to 100ms.

The Mitel Controller Analog Circuit Descriptor default is Flash type "Normal", "low flash 60ms" and "high flash 60ms".
Following on from something I read in a different forum I gave the Polycom unit a different Circuit Descriptor Index and set that one to "Calibrated" & "High flash 100ms".
The behaviour has now changed!

Now what I get is,

 - ring first number
 - press "conference" (First callee is automatically placed on "Hold")
 - ring second number
 - press "conference" <-- second callee goes on hold, first callee is recalled.
At this point nothing I do seems to be able to conference them in together.

Maybe *now* I'm having an issue with getting the correct FAC...
(Previously on their old phone system, pressing "3" would do it.)

I believe what you have to do is this:

1st party on line
press conf
dial second party
press conf (you should hear DT at this point0
Dial conf FAC.
