Denying access to "all phones" group

Once in a while, we have an outside caller that manages to punch in the "all phones" extension in the phone system and rings every phone in the building.

Is it possible to "lock down" access to this?

I think so?

That's the only way I can explain it.

An outside caller is ringing all phones at once....I assume they're  dialing that group number

If there isn't a need to dial it from the outside, you could remove the Extension ID so it can't be dialed.

I'm not sure there is one...one doesn't show up under "phones"

Or, am I looking in the wrong spot?

Look under VOICE PROCESSOR/DEVICES/EXTENSION IDs...see any all-ring hunt groups?  If you remove it callers won't be able to dial from any announcement.

It may actually have a mailbox associated it with if you don't find it under Extension ID. Sometimes this is done so they can Recall the Hunt Group to the Voice Mail application and then they don't have to create a special Call Routing Announcement that does a Time Out to another mailbox. Since the Notification of a Hunt Group mailbox is set to None, by default, then it can be used to light the Message button of any phone to alert them there are messages for the Hunt Group.

Voice Processor > Devices > Mailboxes > {HG extension}

Nope, all I have in Extension IDs are voicemail and one we created for the shipping department

I also checked under mailboxes and the only things there are mailboxes for people...nothing for a hunt group

It could be a recall or attendant station. The next time it happens, ask the caller what they dialed.

Is there even a Hunt Group that rings all phones programmed in the system?

Do you have a DID that might be pointed to an Extension List possibly.

Nope, there's not a hunt group that points to all phones

There should not be a DID that does this...I will double check

Nope, all of them go to a extension, phantom, or hunt group on the primary node

It has to have some sort of recall / overflow somehwere programmed in the system, otherwise for al phones to be dialled via the auto attendant directly there must be something set up in the voice processor section, i.e. extnesion id, mailbox etc.

Cholzhauer,

By default the only list that would not get answered immediately would be the PP052 All IP/Dgtl Phones List found under System > Devices and Feature Codes > Extension Lists > IP/Digital Telephones: PP052.

Now, if you can find another list that has all of your phones or a majority of your phones than that is most likely the list they are accessing. The problem would be going through the entire database to figure out how it can be accessed.

Since this is "suspected" to come from one of your Auto Attendants then you can start looking at every digit translation option to see if it would allow for something to ring that extension list. The good thing is that extension lists are not allowed to be put directly in a digit translation list without turning on On-Line Monitor; and no don't try it.

The only way that an extension list can be rang "easily" or should I say more commonly is through a Hunt Group as a Member. So my first place to look would be through every type of Extension List and see if there are lists other than PP052 that have a lot of the phones or all of them that are in your system that are experiencing this issue. Then go through every Hunt Group and see if any of those lists are in them.

Hopefully that will set you on the right track, but unfortunately with some databases that can be a daunting task to say the least.

I found a hunt group with most of the phones in there...would this be used for paging, or does paging access "all phones" differently?
