Configure HP1920 Switch for LLDP to boot 5340 on VLAN
« on: April 02, 2016, 01:02:29 PM »
We are trying to configure an HP1920 switch to tell a 5340 phone to boot on VLAN 2 which is the PBX VLAN and has the DHCP server for the voice network.  Hoping to get the phone to boot on VLAN 2 and still be able to use the PC port on VLAN1.  Not having much luck.  The switch does not have much of a CLI.  Tried using LLDP settings and Voice VLAN settings.  Not sure if I need both or not.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On Procurve switches, all you have to do is,

lldp enable
vlan 2 voice vlan

Sadly, the 1920 isn't procurve.

If you have a look at the 1920 CFG guide on p160 you can see it says you have to do 3 things:
 - configure Voice VLAN globally
 - configure voice VLAN on ports
 - add your phones OUID (that's their MAC address prefix)

That last step might be the bit you are missing:
Network > Voice vlan > OUID add
(You can see your MAC address prefix on the back of your phones: 0800 0F......)

I did enable my test port for Voice VLAN and did set 0800-0f00-0000 at the Mitel OUI.  The phone did not look for a DHCP server on VLAN 2.  Have you had this working?

thanks

HP has a document on this implementation, I have used it successfully several times but mostly on 2600/2900 series switches.

Just to be clear - you have a phone on this switchport, and the switchport is set to tag VLAN2?

enter the config menu on the phone and manually tag it

I was hoping to not have to hard code the VLAN tag on each phone.

What are you using as a DHCP Server on the native vlan?
You could put an option in that to have the phones get their VLAN ID.
