changing the ringtone of a specific phone extension
« on: January 29, 2016, 01:51:21 PM »
Hello,

We have a mitel 5312 IP phone who's only purpose is to be used when there are emergency at the pool.  There's a programmed key on the phone that dials a ring group.

I'm wondering if it's possible to change the ringtone of this phone.  This way, when an emergency occurs and the ring group is being dialed,  those who are part of the ring group would hear a different ringtone than usual on their phone,  thus triggering a quick response because this different ringtone would mean that something urgent is going on and the phone needs to be answered asap.

You can change the pitch of the ring tone but not the actual tone itself which may suffice in your case. Use the superkey and find ringer adjust.

hmm interesting.

But what we're going for here is changing only the ringtone when calls are originating from the pool side urgency dedicated phone.  That way when the ring group rings, the people part of this ring group would know "oh, it's the different ring tone, I have to pick up the phone asap, an emergency must be going on"

You can't change the ring tone based on the button of the phone or the source of the call.

However....

If you were to set up a IP loop back trunk and flag it as an emergency route, then set up the pool phone so when it dialed a specific number or ring down, then it would hit the emergency route and all the phones in your emergency reporting group would ring with a special ring and their display would change to ring something like "Emergency".

Hi ausername,
what we did recently in one 5 star hotel was that we set the SPA emergency phones with the hotline feature (Users and Devices -> Telephone Directory Management -> Associated Directory Number) so when somebody lifts the handset it calls automatically to a programmed number (people will probably will not know what to dial anyway while they are in emergency). The programmed number was a multicall number on the reception phones so they see that is an emergency call. We are also going to program the emergency route there what ralph is suggesting.

Following these instructions:  http://www.mitelforums.com/articles/3300/how-to-create-loopback-trunk.php

Unfortunately, I don't have access to the  IP/XNET Trunk Profiles page because this module hasn't been purchased.

Trying to get more details from my sale rep.

What version of software are you running?
It's got to be some pretty old stuff if you don't have IP trunking.

Perhaps an entirely different solution -
You could just use an external analog (or SIP) ringer, or even any other phone(s) with a different sound. Just configure the hotline to dial a second ring group that includes the extra phones or ringer. We have evening calls set to ring over our paging system, for example, but any alternate ringer would be sufficient. Granted, if this involves many separate areas, then you'd need an alternate sound and device for each...

Just a thought.

I wouldn't think there would be a problem with an IP trunking loop back trunk at that software level.

Have you tried to create an XNET trunk?

You cannot create an IP Loopback trunk if your system is standalone instead of enterprise, thats your problem.
