Unified Messaging
« on: September 09, 2015, 11:04:51 AM »
I'm new to Mitel and Unified Messaging has been one of the most consist pains in my butt since I started troubleshooting 5000 systems. Usually the reason it doesn't work is something on the client's end, like a firewall in place or an SMTP server that needs some tweaks. We've always managed  to get it to work in the past.

This client has no SMTP server and is using Google Apps for email. Their phone system is brand new and on version 6.0.11, so I know that shouldn't be an issue. They have devices on the network currently that use their Gmail account for SMTP relay to send things, but I can't get the phone system to send out messages. They want enhanced integration, but I can't even get Forward and Copy to work. I know the username and password are correct as I've checked them many times and changed the password and tried again to be sure. I am using smtp.gmail.com as the server and have tried both 25 and 465 as ports (I believe they are using SSL so it would be 465, but still no luck either way). The network administrator has checked over our settings and sees no reason why it should not be working, but I cannot get the voicemails to forward. I saw some other post pointing out mail logs that can be accessed but I am not sure where to get them (I am currently retrieving Networking Diagnostic logs but unsure if these will help me).

Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

Camoron,

The mail logs are not accessed via Database Programming, but they can be accessed via the web interface or the System Administration and Diagnostics interface. The easiest way is to have the SAaD program log onto the system and then press the > button so it will download the latest information from the system. Then on the Favorites Tab you will find a System Information box that has a View System Logs button on it. Press the View System Logs button and then scroll down to find the mail logs entry and see what the system is having a problem with.

Thanks,

TE

Thanks for the help in locating the mail log. Here is the most recent mail log I got from the web interface... is there anywhere I can go to get more helpful information? All this seems to tell me is what I already knew, that the Connection isn't working, though I don't know why. It's obviously making some progress in its connection to smtp.gmail.com as it is resolving and being redirected to smtp-msa.l.google.com but beyond that I don't know what the problem is. Any ideas?

Camoron,

Are you trying to do Enhanced or just Forward and Copy? Also you can not use port 25 with smtp.gmail.com why not try port 587 [TLS] instead of 465 [SSL] if you want to use encryption? If you want to just do Forward and Copy and use port 25 then use aspmx.l.google.com.

The error 110 is what your problem is and that means that the server is not available on the port or URL you are trying to access it on.

Thanks,

TE

Hey thanks, I got this working... wasn't aware you had to use TLS, we've used ports 25/465 for gmail in the past and it worked. I am not sure if that was the problem as we had another user on the system get a UVM email and forward it on to me while it was still on 465. Also worth noting, I had the user I was testing set up with Enhanced Integration settings (her email, etc.) but then turned EI off and set it to Forward & Copy and deleted the still-relevant (non Red X'd) settings and changed them to my own email. I wonder if the system was forwarding on the irrelevant Red X'd fields as well, and that's why it wasn't working? As I said, another user reported that it was working while I could not get it to send me the emails. After putting the original user's information back in (and also changing it to 587) it began working flawlessly. Again, though, it was on 465 when the other user reported it working, so I am really not sure.
