Setting UP CLI

We bough a Mitel 3300 system to replace our aging 3COM system. It has not be a happy experience. After numerous issues we have reverted to handsets with the desktop licence. The system is based in the UK with a number of SIP channels from BT for incoming and outgoing calls. We also have an office in the USA. We had to get a DDI range and internal SIP channel from a different provide as BT don't provide these.

After being told the USA phones could be configured to show their US numbers on the CLI, we're being told this is not possible. This seems odd as our previous VOIP supplier for the US (Telappliant) can do it with their web based PBX. ALl you have to do is sign a document to prove you own the DDI range.

Does anyone know if it really is impossible to set the CLI on the MItel system...or better still how to change it??

Just for clarity; are these two separate systems or do the sip trunks link the systems? or is USA office done via Teleworkers or VPN or something?

Whether you can number stamp is usually up to the trunk provider. The Mitel can put out whatever you like, but if the provider doesn't honour it, you're out of luck. You say you were told you can, I'm guessing from the supplier of your Mitel. I'd presume they know how to do it. You need to bug your new trunk provider.

It is a single system. The MItel is located in London, the users based in the USA connect to it over a VPN.

The international SIP channel is so the USA can have local DDI's and to route the calls over the Atlantic to the 3300. Because of the call plan we get with the UK SIP channels (and the fact we were told we could attach the US DDI's to this channel) we are directing all outgoing calls over the UK SIP channel. Nothing goes out on the international SIP channel.

AS above then, you need to get the USA DDI's ported to the UK SIP's or get the SIP provider to allow the UK side of the service to pass the USA DDI's. As you say a simple  form needs to be filled in that specifies you own the DDI's and that should suffice for our regulator and allow the DDI's to be passed as the CLI.

However it may not be that simple depending on your UK SIP provider and whether they have access to USA stuff, For instance my SIP provider here in the UK does not do any non UK numbers at all. So it all hinges on your SIP provider.

Once that has been done its just using CPN to tell the Mitel which numbers to release for which phones.

Many thanks. Will get onto BT to see if they have a copy of this form. If they can't do this then we'll simply have to direct US calls back out on the international SIP channel.

You could also set it so that any local calls in the USA use the USA channels whilst any calls made into UK numbers use the UK sip channels via ARS and routes and vice versa. any US calls made from london use the USA SIP and local calls use the UK sip.
