5000 System Slow - Resource Calculator
« on: April 20, 2015, 05:34:28 AM »
Hi all,

Does anyone have a link to the Mitel system resource calculator?  Our system is experiencing slowness at times when answering calls, transferring calls etc etc.  While the system is slow the CPU is coasting at 25% so isn't even struggling. We are on version 6.0.10 and have 148 IP keysets, 16 ISDN channels and do not use auto attendant or VM.  I've been told we need to get a PS-1 or PEC to resolve but I need to check if this is right?

Thanks in advance

Slowdown can be caused by hacking attempts as well, have you got any ports open to the system from the outside world?

FYI, in the past when the system was called a 5200, 5400 and 5600 the limits used to be:

Up to 75 Handsets would be a main cabinet only
75 to 150 Handsets would need a PEC
150 to 250 handsets would need a PEC and a PS-1

I'll look up the resource calculator for you.

B19rr,

Most likely the issue is a lack of DSP resources, IF your system is not being attacked from outside. Most of the time if the system is stable, but you have a lot of phones then the shared resources are your limiting factor. The only way to get more DSP resources is to add a PEC-1 card. The only thing the PS-1 would help with is processing power and the voice processor since it is moved to the PS-1, IT DOES NOT PROVIDE RESOURCES, and since your CPU is at 25% it is not the processing of the calls that is your problem. Also, since your CPU is at 25% it most likely is not an attack from the network, but that could still be a very real concern so I would look at that first.

Thanks,

TE

Thanks for the replies guys.  Yes we have opened port 5060 to test remote connectivity but it was unsuccessful so will most definitely close any open ports first.  Would any attack attempts be logged and retrieved?

The resource calculator is very useful so again thanks for this.

Will report back after I've closed the open ports.

b19rro,

Yes, you can get logs depending on the type of attack, but the only ones you really need to worry about are Port 5060, 22, and 8080; which can all be shut off fairly easily through database programming if you are not using them. If you are using them then you may need to find out where the attacks are coming from and create a white list to exclude those attacks.

Thanks,

TE
