SX2000 Redundant system
« on: April 06, 2015, 01:49:54 AM »
Hi All,
I have a issue with a SX2000 redundant system. The hard drive in plane B failed so we were operating on plane A. Someone did the DBMS flag off on the Active side the system rebooted now the data base is blank.

I have a copy of the backup that I was able to load on the Active plane however services was not restored. I also did a DBMS status and DBMS_Initialize is OFF which. I have a few question

1. Can i load the system from the good drive? if so how can it be done
2. After database been restored what needs to be done in order for the active to operate on the restored database.
3. After a DBMS save DBMS_Initialize is not set to on. what can cause that.

Any help is appreciated.

Wow.  It's been a long time but lets see what we can do.

When you restore a database the services should start up.  There really isn't anything you'll need to do other than that to get it going.
You will need to do a "DBMS save" in order to save the database to the hard drive.  - otherwise it will come up with a blank db.

On the active drive enter "part" and confirm it.

If I remember correctly, once you boot the inactive plane from the optical drive then you can do a copy.  I believe you'll have to format the hard drive 1st.   Then the command is "vol copy sysuser from other"

Once that is done then on the inactive plane enter "join".
Then on the active plane enter "join".
It will take a while for the planes to sync.
You can see if it's synced by entering "vol stat red".

I hope that helps some.   It's been a very long time since I've touched a 2k and I'm doing this from memory.

Its been a long time for me as well

But I do remember you have to turn the activity freeze on before you partition it.

I also think you have to format the new drive before you can copy it over but the commands are long ago lost to hops and barley.

@mevans1974 I see you are in the Bahamas if you fly me down first class I would be more than happy to try and fix this  ;D

I am attaching the tech handbook. the procedure you want starts on page 141. The format parameters are different depending on the software release you are running. See the below chart.

For LIGHTWARE 29 Q-Stream Release 3 Q26.13.1 or higher:
VOLUME FORMAT DISK SYSUSER LOAD $8000 REDUN $10000 SCR

For LIGHTWARE 29 Q-Stream Release 1 or 2 Q23.2.5 or lower:
VOLUME FORMAT DISK SYSUSER LOAD $3500 REDUN $4C00 SCR
For LIGHTWARE 28 P-Stream :
VOLUME FORMAT DISK SYSUSER LOAD $3500 REDUN $4C00 SCR

For LIGHTWARE 27 N-Stream :
VOLUME FORMAT DISK SYSUSER LOAD $3500 REDUN $4C00 SCR

For LIGHTWARE 26 M-Stream :
VOLUME FORMAT DISK SYSUSER LOAD $2A00 REDUN $4C00 SCR

For MS2005 L-Stream :
VOLUME FORMAT DISK SYSUSER LOAD $2900 REDUN $3800 SCR

For MS2004/1 K-Stream :
VOLUME FORMAT DISK SYSUSER LOAD $2600 REDUN $2800 SCR
