SX200ICP enable/disable maintenance port
« on: January 05, 2015, 12:56:46 PM »
Greetings, is there a way to enable/disable the maintenance COM port?  I am able to connect via the web interface
but not the maintenance port.  I am well familiar with serial connections and have double checked the COM settings.
I think the installer may have disabled it.  I am also able to use the SMDR port just fine.

Try this:
Connect to the port and enter CTL-Q.
It's possible that the port received X-off and is waiting for an X-on

Thanks for your reply.  I don't have access to the device at the minute but I cycled the power and the status was unchanged.  I assume this would clear the X-off?  Any idea if this port can be enabled/disabled outright?

Yes.  A power cycle would have cleared an X-Off.
Other than that I'm not sure unless you have a bad UART.

Remember the ICP can only do 9600 bps or lower, unlike previous models that could do 19.2, 38.4, or higher speeds. I have never seen a maintenance port go bad on the ICP, and I have installed LOTS of them, not to say that it can't go bad but it would very unusual.

I know almost every Dell laptop we had had the serial port go bad though, and had many USB serial interface cables go bad as well, I switched to using nothing but Edgeport serial devices and they have never failed in over 5 years of constant use.

When you reset the controller, do you see the progress/result codes, while the system boots?

Thanks everyone!  When I reset the controller I don't see any output in Hyperterminal.  When I have a chance I will try different computer's serial connections, double check the port settings (no flow control, 9600, etc) and CTR-Q.
