Q: Emergency Services CESID
« on: September 04, 2014, 09:18:28 AM »
From the help files:
Quote
For SIP trunks:
SIP trunks originating 911 calls use the Calling Party number instead of a CESID.

My question are:
(1) if we send 911 calls out SIP trunks does the system use CESID at all?   If I read that correctly, if we use SIP trunks then I wouldn't have to program CESID.
(2) Related question with Hot Desk users.   If a Hot Desk user logs into a phone in New York and he's based out of Chicago, what does the system use for emergency services when using SIP trunks?

Ralph

1. That's the way I understand it. The SIP trunk provider handles the CESID/ALI info.
2. It should be based on the location of the set the HD user is logged in on. The specifics on how to set that up will vary depending on the software version.

Thanks lundah,
What happens to hot desk users between offices?   Would it send out the Caller ID of the user or the CESID?

I think I remember testing this, and it was the CESID of the host device that got sent. At least on a PRI. Not sure about SIP.

That's how it works on the PRI for sure.
But the help files say:

So it looks like I need to test this out.   The PSAP wont be happy.

I have tested this over SIP trunks in the UK and it is the CESID that is sent to the provider.

I did some brief testing Friday.
It appeared to me that the CESID was not sent but the calling number.
I'll have to re-investigate.

From my experience SIP providers use the calling number you send out.

I opened a ticket with Mitel.
They said the help file that said SIP uses the calling number was not correct.
They want me to do a wireshark capture.

Do you know if when using SIP there is a different field for CESID?
I retested again today and it definitely used the calling number.

Just an update to this.

The help files are wrong.

CESID works just fine.
Mitel suggested today that I do a backup/restore.
As it turns out I did a patch upgrade on that server last Friday for an unrelated problem.  That would have done the backup/restore for me.
But then...   Customer called and said the carrier also made a change.
Retested.  Works just fine.

I don't know if the save/restore resolved the issue or the change the carrier made.
