Odd phone problem - any ideas?
« on: July 18, 2014, 06:56:45 AM »
Got a new user at a remote site that has about 60 Mitel phones.  We sent him a new phone and it will not work on his ethernet cable even though colleages phones do.  Gave him 2 more and the same thing happens.  The 3 phones we sent him work at our site.  We finally worked out that if we gave him a 5320 it works fine but 5320e's will not work at his site but will work at ours.

Any idea's what could be causing that problem?

software on both controllers is
release 4.2
software load 10.2.0.26_2

I'm guessing maybe cisco switches with VLANs at customer site?

There was an issue with the new 53xxe (gigabit) phones that could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours boot into the correct VLAN if at all because of a firmware issue between the 2.

A shot in the dark, but are the switch ports set at 100/full or auto?

Allied telesis switches with a flat(ish) config.  Only one vlan on the POE switches that the phones use.

I am going to look at port speed settings and see if that helps.

Odd thing is we have the exact same setup at our site and we can use 5320e's fine.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think 5320e are not supported on MCD 4.2.

Also, check this post... http://mitelforums.com/forum/index.php?topic=5391.msg24014#msg24014

I know in some older MCD software if you program the 5330e and a 5330 it works. Would assume the same would be the case on this MCD 4.2 system i.e it needs to be programmed as a 5320 ( thats why the 5320's work ). Power requirments higher for the 5320e? Wouldn't think so.
