Hi all,

I am using Mitel IP-PBX 3300 MXe III and some IP Phones Mitel 5324 in my local network (192.168.1.0/24)

IP address of 3300 MXe III is 192.168.1.253, L2 Switch IP address is 192.168.1.254, Default Gateway IP address is 192.168.1.252. DHCP server is enable on this IP-PBX. My laptop IP address is 192.168.1.10 (received IP address from my IP-PBX)

Please kindly find my attachment for more detailed configurations!

And now my IP Phone can not register to the IP-PBX. Please kindly help me fix this problem!

Thanks and best regards,
Spencer

Are you connecting the IP phone directly to the PBX or going through a switch or other device?

Have you anything on your network that might conflict with the above set network addresses? and have you got option 125 set on your dhcp server that still contains a vlan number as that will also cause these issues if there is no vlan's on the system. Remove it and try again.(you don't need it if there are no vlans.

Hi Jason TL,

I am connecting IP Phone to PBX via a Layer 2 switch, not directly.

Hi X-man,

I don't have any VLAN in my network, only one network 192.168.1.0/24. And you mean that I have to delete option 125 in DHCP Options Configuration? and all the remains will not be removed?

Thanks and best regards,
Spencer

No, just delete the vlan option in 125 if it exists. Just the vlan option if its there.

two things to try

1. factory reset the handset
unplug handset
hod down 1 and plug in the handset (keep holding 1 until you get "configure phone"
press * for yes to configure phone
press # for no until you get to tools and features
press * for yes to tool and features
press # for no until you get to restore defaults
press * for yes to restore defaults
press * to confirm

2. setup dhcp options 128, 129 and 130 (handsets with old firmware didnt use 125, this was more an issue with the 5212 and 5224 handsets, once firmware was upgrade they then use 125)
128 = TFTP server = ip address of you controller
129 = Call Server = ip address of you controller
130 = IP Phone Identifier = MITEL IP PHONE

I have a couple other things, but give them a try first.

If that doesnt work, how far does the phone get (eg waiting for DHCP, or does it get to the point of asking for the pin etc)

Hi ghost,

I did complete your 2 instructions, and now the LED screen of IP Phone 5324 appeared "USE Superkey TO SEND PIN". I press 5555 and blue key but this IP Phone is still not registered successfully.

What should I do for being continued?

Thanks and best regards,
Spencer

Ah, you need the set registration code first. Usually *** but may have been changed try it and if it doesn't work look in feature access codes for set registration and use whatever is there.

So its ***5555 superkey. or whatever is in feature code for set registration 5555 superkey.

I am assuming that nothing else has ever been registered to that extension number. If it has you may need to use the set replacement code instead. try above and come back for details if it doesn't register.

Hi X-man,

I did register this IP Phone successfully to my IP-PBX when i use DHCP server which is stayed on 3300 MXe III. But when i change DHCP server to the modem, IP Phone's LED screen appeared "DHCP: Discovery Option 128 missing". What should I do to fix this problem?

Thank you and best regards,
Spencer

You modem dhcp needs to be able to provide dhcp option 128 or it wont work (in which case you will need to use the pbx for you dhcp server)

Hi ghost,

I intend to disable dhcp of my pbx and use dhcp on my windows server 2008 or modem/router. I dont see the option 128 in DHCP Scope of windows server 2008. And i dont know how to set option 128 on modem/router.

Could you please let me know how to set dhcp server outside ip-pbx?

Thanks and best regards,
Spencer

That means your DHCP is working.   Now we need to find out why it doesn't register.
Here's what I would do next.

1- Verify the phone has the correct phone type programmed.
2- Edit the phone in the PBX and manually put the MAC address in.
3- reset the phone.

If you want to use the DHCP from Windows 2008 you will need the document and DHCP Config Tool from Mitel Online.
i doubt your modem/router will have the required options.

You could use option 43 in your DHCP Server as Option 125 is a bit more of a pain to configure.

There are 2 things I would do from here.

1. Use the DHCP in the Mitel Controller and enable the "Client's Class ID Must Match Name" in the DHCP IP Address Range form (This allow the DHCP Server to only respond to Mitel IP Phones and will ignore other requests). Be sure not to overlap with current DHCP Pool, i.e. if your Server is using 192.168.1.1-100 use 192.168.1.150-240 or similar for IP Phones. IP Phones will then get the options from the Mitel which are a lot easier to program and all other devices will get it from you other DHCP Server.

2. Depending on how big the site is you could set the phones in to Teleworker mode by holding down the '7' key while booting an IP phone. This will allow you to enter the IP Address of the Mitel Controller and allow the IP Phone to get an address from any standard DHCP Server and connect to the IP address programmed to download its firmware and connect. (This is a lazy way but is still better than setting static IP Addresses)

As mentioned in previous posts make sure you have a Set Registration Code in your System Options and PIN the phone in by {code}Extension{Blue Key}
The other option is to set MAC address manually in the MCD and when the phone boots it will take the extension programmed assuming set type is correct.
