Verizon Product Retirement Timeline?

Not sure if this is true or not I found it on another forum.


ATT Product Retirement Timeline
High Level Description: This is to advise that the retirement dates for ISDN PRI, BRI, Digital Trunking and SuperTrunk services are as follows:
• Sales Hold: 6/30/15 – No new Circuits
• Grandfather:
6/30/16 – The only allowable MACD is a disconnect
• Sunset:
10/15/19 – No new circuits. All circuits must be disconnected.



Verizon Product Retirement Timeline
Effective May 18, 2013 ILEC ISDN BRI (as business lines) service is grandfathered (existing customers may keep their service, however no moves adds or changes can be made to the service). However, the service is still available for ISDN BRI “Centrex".
For ordering ISDN BRI Centrex, please resubmit your request to SPOA requesting "ISDN service over Custopak".
Use the script below to submit an order request for Centrex ISDN BRI service to cbs.spoa@verizon.com. Please be sure to copy order manager Rick Stokely -ricky.stokely@one.verizon.com. Once confirmation is provided the SPOA rep will send a PIC Freeze form to be completed to process the order request. For any questions or concerns contact the Service Program Manager Ben Cox – Benjamin.f.cox@verizon.
One CENTREX ISDN circuits with CAPABILITIES PACKAGE R? ( (2B plus D, Cap. Pkg R?)
Long Distance PIC: Verizon 0222- PIC FREEZ/PIC RESTRICT ?
Local PIC: Verizon 0222- PIC FREEZ/ PIC RESTRICT ?

Don't know about Verizon (not in their territory), but I can confirm the AT&T dates line up with what my customers have been told as well.

Makes sense, really. Why would the telcos want to continue to spend millions on upkeep of 30+ year old CO switches (the 5ESS came out in what, 1983? DMS-100 is about as old, not sure about EWSD) to support ISDN, when they already have SIP-capable softswitches that cost less and can provide the same functionality and features?

I'm interested in seeing what they do with POTS subscribers. I know Verizon was really pushing to drop POTS altogether and switch subscribers to VOIP or wireless after Sandy. Not sure if that's related to tariff regulations or maintenance expense, probably a bit of both.

I spoke to one of our CLEC's and for now they say its still up in the air.

But I ran across this document looking for something else and this is in the New England area.

Well, Gamma have a vested interest of course... However , the last time I looked, BT were saying that even if they went  to the 21CN network they would continue to supply ISDN for the foreseeable future. And since they are making little if any headway at rolling out the 21CN network apart from broadband I think it will be around for w awhile. remember that whilst they have to maintain it the equipment (system X/Y) has been paid for many times over and income from ISDN is almost pure profit for them. Most of the traffic will go over the established digital links that VoIP uses any so really its only the exchange equipment.

I have had ISDN for many many years and am still on the original NTE supplied at install and can't remember when it last failed to work. And I think that was a line fault....
