Softkey to Disable another phone ?
« on: May 28, 2014, 09:35:38 AM »
Hello, I am looking for an option whereas one phone has the ability to disable another phone, both incoming/outgoing.

Example:  Unit clerk has Soft Key on their phone that they can push to turn off/on an analog patient phone to prevent use.

Thanks in advance for your help/advice.  Possible other options?

You want to restrict the DN from being able to initiate calls?

I haven't done anything like that with Mitel, but it sounds like you want a Hotel type check in/out function. Might be worth checking the online help and see what it has to say about it.

"You want to restrict the DN from being able to initiate calls?"

Precisely...  A phone in a public location is only to be used when allowed by staff.  We are looking for a way to allow the staff to turn on/off this phone via a softkey on another phone.

When on, full use of the phone is available.
When off, the phone cannot make/receive calls.

we would like this this on/off to be controlled from another phone, not a sysadmin.

Is this phone hotdesk? You can have the users who use it legitimately to log in, then out when done. Make the base number device only and you cannot dial out from it except emergency calls.

There's a couple of ways to stop a call from being able to dial out.
1) COS
2) COR
3) Interconnect restrictions.

COR and COS can be controlled via
1) Hot desking
2) Day/Night1/Night2

From a second phone you can:
1) Change the Day/Night1/Night2 mode.
Changing the Day/Night options will change it for everyone in the tenant.

So, if you built a new tenant that has only the phone you want to restrict along with the phones you want to restrict it in the tenant then this is do-able.
1)Build a new tenant that allows access to all trunks and other devices
2) Put the phone to be restricted in the tenant
3) Put the phones you want to be able to restrict the other phone
4) Set the COR of the restricted phone to be blocked in Night1/Night2 modes.
5) To use, the phones that are allowed to restrict the 1st phone simply puts the tenant in Night Mode to block the phone from dialing out.

Why not just lock down the phone's COS/COR and assign 1 or more account codes to the staff who need to use it?

The Phone Lock feature could also work for this application.

Thanks Ralph!  Completed the configuration and the tenant function worked remarkably well, exactly what I was looking for.  We lose the function of one IP phone due to the mast phone being part of the tenant, but small price to pay for the this fantastic functionality.  Have a great one!

Interesting solution, but I'm sticking with account codes being the "correct" way to temporarily un-restrict a set for the duration of one call.

The access code would not fit the need for this situation.  These phones are not used by staff but rather indivuals that are located behind a barrier and are allowed only designated timeframes to utlize the phones.  There may be lines at times to use these phone.  The privelage needs to be revoked under several circumstances.
