DHCP Option 128 Removal Question
« on: April 07, 2014, 11:25:54 AM »
I believe I know the answer just wanted to double check.

We have our PBX's setup with Option 125 but there is also 128. When booting up some phones it say's option 128 missing this doesn't happen all the time. Is there any reason why I cannot just delete option 128? I wouldn't think there would be.  Would this effect anything if I removed this during the day? Further, if both options exist why would a phone try to use 128 vs 125 and why would it say it's missing when 128 is there?

Thanks,

As long as you don't have any really old IP phones (pre-5212/5224/53xx), it should be fine to delete... You can always add it back in if something doesn't work properly.

Also, 5485 IP Page Unit won't work with option 125

Really? Hmm, pretty sure we only have option 125 setup at a site that has several of these... Or maybe it was option 43...

I think it may be a difference up firmware level.
Earlier software required option 128 but after the firmware was upgrade it could use either.

You might find if you find an older phone kicking around and plug it in it won't work until the phone updates its firmware.
