stutter dial tone left over

We have recently removed the external voice mail system from our Mitel 3300, and don't plan to replace it. Thing is, the stutter dial tone, presumably caused by messages waiting, remains on for some extensions. Can one turn it off some how?

When you say "external", is it 3rd party? Nupoint? Thanks.

Find an extension with the stutter dial tone and run the maintenance command "Locate Feature Ext (DN)" and see what active features are on the phone. DND, call forward and maybe a few others will cause this as well.

What type of phones are these? IP, DNIC or ONS?

The former voice mail system is a Repartee box. It communicates over 7 dedicated Mitel extensions using DTMF signaling. The phones are simple, dumb analog phones supplied by the user. I have tried #55 (Cancel All Features) from one of those phones to no avail. I was able to turn off the flashing message light feature by changing an entry in "ONS/OPS Circuit Descriptors", but don't see anything for message waiting dial tone signal.

When you say "Find an extension and run the maintenance command", I assume you are expecting to be able to enter command lines from the telephone set. No such luck here. It's just a phone.

Nope you enter the command from maintenance section of the 3300 itself accessed through the web browser connection to the programming interface therein.. So you enter Locate feature ext xxxx (where xxxx is an actual extension number abd submit that and it will come back with the information

OK, X-Man, that worked. The extension has "message light on" and "dialed call waiting". Any idea how to turn the flags off?

No. apart from scrubbing the extension and recreating it. Unless you can reconnect the repartee and clear the messages etc. which will clear the lines then remove the vm again.

If the VM ports are just single-line station ports, you could just connect a buttset/analog phone and dial the codes manually. Might even be able to hook up a modem and automate it if you're handy with scripting that sort of thing.

Look in the feature access codes form for remote clear all features and dial that code followed by the extension number with the issue, that should clear the dialed call waiting. You can try the FAC for message waiting indication - disable (same proceedure as before with this code). That should clear the MWI. If that doesn't work you may not have an option enabled in the COS to allow remote clearing of features.

You won't be able to delete the extension until you have disabled the MWI. What type of set is it?

The port will have to have the VM COS options enabled and be a member of the VM hunt group to be able to turn off MWI requests turned on by the Repartee system.
