Superset Hub
« on: February 24, 2014, 04:51:03 PM »
Hello guys

Just checking hardware on newly inherited SX2000 campus and come across superset hub?
Not seen one of these before.
Hub is in a remote location and linked back to SX via fibre optics
The front has 16 rj45 ports which have been patched and run to a dp and presented  on a couple of krone blocks
Questions how is the hub configured in the sx?
Is there a specific form?
How can i tell which plid is feeding each port in turn each krone? :-\

Confused

Mark

Find an old tech's handbook online (SX2000 light or 3300, I release 3.2 has info)... it is essentially a single 16-port DNI card, the 16 jacks are ports 1-16.

In the SX2000 it is just like any other per bay, except it only has one card. As far as which PLID, well, your kind of on your own there, connect a phone and see what extension you get maybe, then do a locate?

Open up the cabinets.
It should be obvious when you look at the front of the system.
The slots connected to the superhub will have fiber connected to it.

That would be assuming that all other cabinets/per bays are in the same room... I know of a hotel that has a SX2000 with about 8 per bays scattered throughout 11 floors and all connected by fiber.

Just look through the programming and see what cabinet has only one DNI card assigned in slot one and nothing else, should be the one your looking for, assuming there is only one of these on-premise.

If that doesn't work and you have multiple fibers and nothing is labeled properly, try this sometime when it is slow or after hours and it will take two people but one only needs to look for a red light, disconnect the fiber from the peripheral interface card on the hub and hold them against a white piece of paper so you can see the red light (I'm not gonna tell you to look directly into a fiber cable), then at the system disconnect each TX fiber lead one at a time and see if the light goes out on the fiber at the hub... when it goes out you will know what Cabinet it is, from there it should be pretty straight forward.

Cheers Guys

Got there in the end  ;)
Cabs not in same location as switch.
Disconnected the fibre on back of the hub and searched  for a fault with cmd show faults line.
This gave me plid. Reconnected fibre and did cmd again to make sure and switch came back with no line faults   :)

There was a lot of head scratching going on last couple of days ;D

Thanks again

Mark
