Setting up DHCP options

So I am in the middle of installing a 5000 at a small office with 8 phones, and will be using the embedded DHCP server for the phones, that is all working correctly... the Cisco switch is using LDAP to push the phones to VLAN 6, and they are getting Option 125 and coming online normally. I have a port for maintenance that I want to be able to plug into and get DHCP and be able to access the system and the Internet, my laptop gets an IP address in the correct VLAN from the 5000 but I can't seem to figure out how to setup DHCP Option 6 to hand out the DNS servers so I can access the Internet. Setting it statically in the laptop works, but I would prefer to have it automatic, plus I want to know for future reference where there are no VLANs but the Mitel is handing out all DHCP.

I thought I had it right, but there is no option for multiple IP addresses, and when I set Option 6 to a single IP address my laptop never even gets that one. My setting for Option 6 is below... What I want it to hand out for DNS addresses is "24.220.0.10,24.220.0.11" but I just can't for the life of me figure out how to do it.

Nope, won't let you do that... It pops up the standard Mitel 5000 "IP Address" window, one IP address, it's not an open field.

Even so, even with only 1 IP address, my laptop is not seeing it... Just says "DNS Server: unknown"

Do you have the Vendor ID must match name set to yes? i.e it will only respond to Mitel devices.
It sound like it is set to no though as you do get a IP address from the 5000, or is there another DHCP server on the VLAN?

The Vendor ID is set to No, and there is no other DHCP server in the VLAN. Also, every time I make a change I go back and disable then enable the DHCP server again to restart the service... It's weird, my laptop gets an IP address and the gateway, but the DNS value says "Unknown" no matter what I do.

Guess I thought this would be an easy one and just something I forgot or missed, but maybe not... I will open a ticket online with Mitel later today and see what they say I guess.

Have you tried setting up option 15 which is for dns.

I think option 15 is to push out DNS domain names, while option 6 is to push out DNS IP addresses.  This is good stuff though; I haven't used the 5000 for DHCP yet. I'm already learning a ton.

Maybe DHCP is really slotted for 6.0 SP1?

I know it works as I have set it up before, but I am off work today with no access to my laptop right now. When I get home I will look it up and send more info on what I set up and got working.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this, but I had some issues to deal with today that took longer than expected. Anyway, I looked at my databases that I have Option 6 and 15 set up for and they do work.

I then set it up in my home lab CS-5000 and it works there as well.

I have attached some pics to show you my setup, but remember this is on a default database as my running database is not 6.0

DHCP Service Options shows all the Options I set up, notice option 6 and 15
IP Config shows what my laptop recieved once it requested an IP address
Option 6 shows how I set it up in the Options Form
Option 15 shows how I set it up in the Options Form

Hopefully that helps you out with troubleshooting a little. I realize that we set it up the same so I will tell you the software version that I am on in case that may be a factor. Version 6.0.9.61 is the version I loaded up since it was the only one I had on my USB drive at the time.

Anyway that should show you that it does work and it works well so now all you need to do is figure out what else happened. By the way I never setup Option 6 without 15, but that should not matter.

Weird... that is exactly what I did, except the Option 15 (which I have never done in any DHCP server)... Weird, might have to try a reset and go at it again.

You could try resetting DHCP Server to defaults and start again. Operations/DHCP Server Operations/Default DHCP Server Settings
I know there was an issue if upgrading from 5.1 to 6.0 DHCP Server didn't work properly until it was defaulted. I know this is a new install but may be worth a shot anyway.

Haven't been back onsite... awaiting cable vendor to finish cabling, I should be going back Thursday, will test it some more and let you know.

I am having a similar issue.
6.0.9.67
I create an option 3 (Router) and it doesn't populate the phone.
It only appears to use Option 125 and get the details from that. i.e. TFTP, Call Server.
Do your phones get the gateway address ok?

OK I defaulted the DHCP Server and my phones now get the Router address.
I might try and test this further when I get back to my office on our demo system.
