Java again

After a problem with IE getting updated to 10 and not being able to backup on a customers machine we backed it down to 9 (where it was) and tried again and still no Java (very latest load). So I had the IT guy put me a VM of XP on the machine and the message in the attachment. Anyone else seen this or know of the problem and whther Mitel are aware?

Hi Guys, this has only occoured since IE went to 10 (have backed up successfully before) so I'm not sure its the earlier java problem but it may be. I'll try the revised security settings as well.

I got the same message yesterday after installing the latest Java update (1.7.45) and then firing up OpsManager (yes, I'm still using it for a very very large customer). Backing down Java at least a release or 2 should get rid of it, but I'm concerned that a future Java update is going to cause me a lot of headaches. Used to be you could have multiple older versions running and the PC would use whatever release was required by the application, but that seems to no longer be the case.

I think it is time Mitel questioned its use of java for backup/restore purposes. many IT people I speak to look aghast when I tell them I need java to do a simple backup or restore.....more so since the recent vulnerabilities.

Or at least give us an alternative.   For example, do a backup to the PBX hard drive and then allow us to dl it via an FTP client.

TBH Ralph, since the FTP is whats being used anyway why can't they just do a backup like they do now and let it be restorable as is since IIUIC the backup file is in the sysro directory tree somehwere and can be downloaded and renamed to use the java stuff so why can't we just 'put' it back in to the required directory and do a restrat or similar? FTP is used so often these days it shouldn't be a problem?

So, having looked at the release notes for MCD6 again it appears to say that JRE is no longer required for ESM backups (and I assume therefore retsores...)?

You're right x-man! We have 6.0 SP1 here and we don't need java anymore for backups/restores and also CSV imports.

Which, unfortunately, will not help with those customers who will not pay to go to 6 just so we can backup and restore their systems....quite right as well since many of them do not require the upgrade as they are quite happy with what they have....
