Mitel 5312 - Transferring calls with a headset
« on: September 06, 2013, 08:15:48 AM »
Hello all, I was hoping someone may be able to assist with an issue we're currently having with the Mitel 5312 system.

Our office has recently started using headsets with our phone system, we've managed to set it up fine and they work perfectly. However, we cannot seem to get it to transfer calls internally. Normally, we would press the 'transfer/conference' button and put down the receiver, however with this being disabled in handset mode, we were wondering if there was another way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!  :)

Have you used the headset feature code to enable the headset properly?

As far as I know the speaker key becomes the clear  key on the 5000 so transfer then the speaker key.

If it is a 3300 you may need to program a release key.

How do you hang up when completing a normal call?

Chris is correct, to answer the call you would press the Speaker Phone button, press transfer and dial the number, press Speaker Phone again to transfer the call to the other party.

Answering and terminating calls varies, depending on the type of headset.

To get the headset working, I've had to go on the System Administration Tool and add the headset into the User and Device configuration section (I googled it and found a post on this forum about it).

I've tried pressing the speaker button but that doesn't seem to have any effect.

With the headset in, we press the 'cancel' key and that disconnects the call. When trying that to transfer the call, it doesn't pass it over to the other person it just lets you speak to the person you were trying to transfer in the first place.

I've tried pressing the speaker button, but it doesn't seem to answer the call or transfer it  :(

Are  you definitely running a Mitel 5000 telephone system?

If you dial 317 on the handset does it toggle the Headset mode on and off?

If you dial 317 and the phone says headset mode on it will definitely work the way I have described.

Unless you are using a Plantronics CS70 or similar with a handset lifter.

The phone itself says 'MITEL 5312 IP Phone'

When I enter 317, it comes up saying invalid.

Maybe you don't have a Mitel 5000 at all!  Maybe a 3300?  If you dial a bad feature code on a 5000, display will say INVALID EXTENSION, not INVALID.  Have you actually found the phone system controller?  Newer units are 2u high and say HXCONTROLLER on the front.  Older units are 1u and have a brushed aluminum panel on the left and a cutout with some connections and mem card at the right.  Both types have a 2-line LCD next to an array of 4 arrow buttons surrounding a round button (do a Google image search for a picture).  If that's not what you see you're in the wrong forum.
