Analog handoff from Avaya lines getting locked up
« on: August 06, 2013, 03:14:05 PM »
Hello, fellow telecom people. We have a client that we are getting 6 LS handoffs from an Avaya system for all of the call flow. What is happening sporadically is the lines are getting held up in the 3300 (different ones all the time) and I have to perform busy (force), RTS of the affected ones to clear it. Any thoughts and/or help greatly appreciated. Thanks! :o

What are the LS lines connected to on the Avaya? Probably analog set ports on the Avaya connected to loop start trunks on the 3300 I would think? Thing is you might not get proper disconnect signalling on an Avaya ONS port. My guess would be the issue happens when the Avaya party hangs up first.

I think what he is saying is that if the far end (Avaya side) hangs up before the Mitel side the Avaya doesn't tell the Mitel that the call has ended. But if the Mitel side hangs up first the Mitel knows the call has ended and will tear the call down correctly.

Do this test:
Make a call from the Avaya.
Find the trunk the call is connected on and stat it.
Have the Mitel user stay on the call.
Have the Avaya end hang up.
Stat the trunk.
If there is no supervision the trunk will still show busy.

BTW: this may only be a problem in the event a call is transferred from the Mitel side tying up two trunks.

If this is the case there may only be a couple of solutions:
1) put a device in series with the trunk that listens for dialtone and disconnects the line after a few seconds.
2) disallow trunk to trunk transfers.   Add a CO flash button the phone and transfer that way.

Ralph

(I've never used a CO Flash button so I'm not sure how well that will work.)

Thanks, Ralph. I would probably have to be onsite to perform some of this, no? :'(

No.   You can have an Avaya user call in or you can call in from the outside.
