Help 9.0.0.41 to 8.0.11.14 stuck on DB restore
« on: June 26, 2009, 01:05:34 PM »
I have a new Mxe that I tried to downgrade from 9 to 8 and it is stuck on the db restore.  From VX is says that the restore is not compatible do you want to continue yes or no.  It doesn't do anything no matter what I type.  I have never tried to down grade a system before so any advice would be great.  I have another Mxe coming in Monday that I have to do the same thing to and I would like to not repeat this on that one as well.

Looks like you'll have to do a manual software load without using the installer tool.

There is no way to downgrade a database once the database has been upgraded.

Do you have an older backup from when the system was release 8?

Why do you want to go back to release 8?

If you used the SI tool to go from 8.0 to 9.0 (with no other upgrades between) you may run the "swap" maintenance command. Check in the about System Administration to see if the rel you want in listed under the inactive software version.

You WILL LOSE any programming changes that were made since the last upgrade.

This was a new controller with no real config in it yet.  It came with 9 and we are running 8.  At on point it was showing that both hard drives where in fault.  We are trying to manually reinstall right now.  I will post up the fix when we get it working.

Now I know never to do that again  :P

even if you do a manual install, it will fail if you try a restore, with a later version backup file.  So, do not do a restore.  Just program from scratch, as you said it doesn't have much info in the database anyway.

If you have SDS just add it to the cluster and sync.

I definitely don't plan on doing a restore again, I only checked it out of habit and we do not have SDS unfortunately(they are afraid to turn it on).  We finally got the hard drive faults to clear by clearing the RAID controller sockets and it is finally installing 8.  The steps are below in case anyone is interested.

To clear the sockets, perform the following steps.
1.   While power is OFF, verify both hard disks are removed.
2.   Turn the MXe power on. Wait until the fault LEDs on the RAID controller are orange.
3.   Turn the MXe power off. The RAID controller sockets are now clear.
4.   Proceed with the installation/upgrade.
