Mitel 5000 problems
« on: June 06, 2013, 01:46:14 PM »
Hi
I am IT manager for a small business using Mitel 5000 system with 40 handsets.
We've recently had problems with the phones. Users have experienced delays in answering calls they press the answer on the phone and it takes a few seconds to register. We've also had external and internal calls cut out mid conversation.
I've had the phone lines checked which are all ok. I've separated the data and voice network, connected one phone at a time and even had the full system swapped out which hasn't made any difference. The problem is the delay is an intermittent problem so it's hard to diagnose.
We are a telemarketing company so rely on the phones.
Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Network issues aside, I've seen this happen in the past with high phone counts and low resources.  40 phones isnt enough to to do this unless your using other applications like UCA, MAS, CSM or Praire Fyre.  If your using the BVM for Voicemail and it is ported up, you may need to add additional DSP resources or offload the BVM to a PS-1.  Best to get your dealer involved to help solve this issue.

What version of software are you running? I have seen various versions do this, most recently 5.1 SP2, 5.1 SP4 fixes the problem even though it is not in the release notes.

Also, are you doing a weekly or monthly reboot? I have been doing this more and more recently as I see available RAM drop over time with no explanation at a few sites, sometimes to a point the system gets laggy like that.

We've had that problem caused by an ethernet loop, phones slow to respond and random calls cutting off.

Have you tried a new network switch?

We've just upgraded to 5.1 sp4 so hopefully it will fix the issue.
Have tried a new switch as well.

Thanks for all the replies.

I've had this issue on flat networks using IP endpoints with no virtual or physical segregation. Any mid-large size file transfers would step all over the voice traffic causing the symptoms you are describing. What is your LAN config overview?

Any answers on this?

This is exactly what is happening on our 130 user system setup.

We do have UCA MAS & CSM.

Currently complaining directly to Mitel UK as this has gone on for months and nobody seems to be able to fix it.

Voice is separated and on different physical switches with a Cisco routing the connectivity between phone VOIP network and main data network.

The Cisco was not setup properly for QOS to start with between 2 sites. There was a list of errors by the installers.

POE switches are brand new Netgear switches - which given the amount of traffic should have no problem at all.

I suspect the Cisco router is not configured 100% correctly.

Finding engineers that actually know the Mitel 5000 system & UCA & MAS & CSM is almost impossible.

Which is half the problem in my opinion.

Would be interesting to know if there was a fix for this thread?
