MCD 5 upgrade
« on: February 14, 2013, 08:56:11 AM »
Hi All,

I currently have 2 ICP controllers (a CX & a MXE II) which have MCD 4 standard loaded, and an IP Networking license installed.  Am I correct in thinking that once the upgrade to MCD 5 takes place these become Enterprise and so the Handsets gain the Hotdesk feature?

Thanks

Stephen

Why wouldn't you just upgrade to 6.0?

But to answer your question, you will move to Enterprise Licensing, but you should already have the Hot Desking feature (internally). External Hot Desking is a licensed feature though that could be added.

I think that even when you are standalone, you need to create a cluster to use hot desk.

To program Hot Desking on devices, you must:

Program a cluster ID (for nodal hot desking only)

Enable Hot Desking on supported multiline IP sets

Program the Hot desk users including phone keys (MiNET Mitel's proprietary signaling protocol used to control Mitel IP and TDM telephones. phones only)

Program feature access codes (FACs) for login, logout, and remote logout (optional)

Enable sets for remote logout (optional)

Set a default device type for the Desktop Tool (optional)

Correct!
Got stung by this a few weeks back on a non networked stand alone system.

I make it a habit to cluster all stand alone systems. I think some other things may require it too

Yes you need a cluster element ID setup for hotdesking but don't need MCD5 for that or to be registered as an Enterprise or even be in a cluster as you can hotdesk on a single system.

As long as you have SWA on your multiple controllers and IP trunk licenses in place, then you will become an Enterprise on upgrading.
