Broken analog port?
« on: November 06, 2012, 09:21:33 AM »
Hi,
I am an IT administrator and my client owns a Mitel 3300 icp. Since last weekend they are unable to use their fax which is connected to an analog port.
It seems there where two lightning strikes during the weekend, maybe something got fried.

When i check the state of the analog devices i get the following

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  Location    | Device               | State          |  Owner  | ID  |Status
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 2 1  1   1   | ONS on Embedded ASU  | Unassigned     |         |     |
 2 1  1   2   | ONS on Embedded ASU  | Unassigned     |         |     |
 2 1  1   3   | ONS on Embedded ASU  | Idle           |         |     |
 2 1  1   4   | ONS on Embedded ASU  | Locked Out     |         |     |
 2 1  1   5   | LS on Embedded ASU   | Unassigned     |         |     |
 2 1  1   6   | LS on Embedded ASU   | Unassigned     |         |     |
 2 1  1   7   | LS on Embedded ASU   | Unassigned     |         |     |
 2 1  1   8   | LS on Embedded ASU   | Unassigned     |         |     |
 2 1  1   9   | LS on Embedded ASU   | Unassigned     |         |     |
 2 1  1  10   | LS on Embedded ASU   | Unassigned     |         |     |
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Number 2 1 1 4 is the device connected to the fax.
Number 2 1 1 3 is used for the alarm system (seems to work fine)

When i check the software log i get a lot of these warnings (every few seconds)

Log Type:    Software
Log Number:    1886
Severity:    Warning
Date:    2012/Nov/06
Time:    15:23:35
Source:    IP Networking - MIPS
Description:    port 11 power OFF: mode[0x0] fault[0x0] BoxPower[24.8] current[1.5] voltage[47.62] sys_status[1af]
Module:    IP Networking - MIPS
File Name and Line Number:    MIPSServiceProvider.cpp;803

Not sure if the above log message is related, but it started this weekend.

What i have done so far is disconnect the fax and let them call the internal fax number (990). They get a fast beeping tone and the message 'not in use' (translated from dutch).

Can anyone help me diagnose the fax line please?

Usually when I see "locked out" that means that something on the line is Off Hook or you have a short in the line.
Now that the fax is disconnected, check the status again.  If it's no longer off hook then you have a bad fax.
If it's still off hook, pull the jumper wires and stat again.   If after you've pulled the jumper wires and you're still "locked out" then you'll have to replace hardware.

Hi Ralph,

thanks for the reply. When i checked the status the fax was already disconnected.
What do you mean with 'pull the jumper wires'?

Do you know if this perticular piece of the pbx is replacable?

The jumper wires are what connects the phone system to the cable going to the fax machine.
In your case, simple unplug the line from the back of the PBX.

Hi Ralph, i will do that friday.
I guess the chance, the board is fried, is pretty big. though it's strange that the port next to it is still working....maybe i can reroute the fax to 2 1 1 2 or 2 1 1 1 ?

That shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Ralph,

i tried rerouting the fax to 2 1 1 2 but i am getting no dial tone.
Do i have to configure a dial tone?

When i call the fax numer 2 1 1 2 shows ring at state but the device doesn't pick up.
