3300 and Exchange 2007/2010 Co-Existance
« on: October 31, 2012, 08:47:38 AM »
Hello all,
We are currently in the process of upgrading from Exchange 2007 to 2010 UM, and need to have them work in tandem for awhile during the migration.

Currently the 3300 is working great with the 2007 UM, but when we redirect the network element for the sip trunk to the new 2010 UM nothing happens.  I know the call routing/sip trunk is working and UM server is getting the connection, but when it should be redirecting the call to the 2007 nothing happens...

A call was received with the following parameters:
Calling Party: "sip:740@aga-3300.argusgroup.net",
Called Party: "sip:444@aga-exum.argusgroup.net",
Diversion Information: "",
Referred-By Header: "",
Call ID "145054208-103108621".

The 2007 and 2010 servers are both part of the same dial plan and configured using Microsoft's upgrade path best practice...

Has anyone every had that setup working?  If so, I would deeply appreciate some insight.  Any Exchange 2010/3300 sip peer profile settings documentation would be helpful as well, as there doesn't seem to be a consenses on the correct settings.

The fact that it works flawlessly with 2007 already so a good base to work off of...is there any difference between 2007 and 2010 as far as the 3300 is concerned?

Many thanks in advance for any advise.

TR

I can't offer any advice for your call re-direction as we didn't try to maintain Exchange UM while we moved from 2007 to 2010.

One of the big differences between the two is that 2010 can light MWI lights natively. Only down-side is that if you implement Exchange SP1 or newer, the way the addressing is setup in Exchange for MWI, tells the 3300 that the phone itself turned on the MWI light. This means that if the user tries to press the Envelope/Message key on their phone, the phone will be trying to call itself. Users will just have to know to call the pilot number for the Exchange UM or if you program a "Exchange Vmail" button on their phones, that will work as well.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Could you tell me what your sip peer profile looks like for connecting to the 2010 UM?  What documentation did you follow?

Does Mitel support connections to Exchange 2010 SP1+?  I gather SP1 cause issues with other vendors...

This is pretty accurate to the problem I'm having:

I'm guessing Mitel hasn't patched this in some release?

At a guess it would be a MS thing to fix, as they have probably strayed from the SIP "standards" and tried to do something in order to improve Lync or something like that, but in the process broken interop with other vendors platforms.

Whilst it doesn't appear to direclty relate to your problem, check out KB 11-5191-00242 on MOL which mentions issues with the way that SP1 modifies the from header. Might be another road block that you hit later on once you do manage to get 2010 working!

Also, since you are only just migrating to it now, I assume that you are running Exchange 2010 SP2?

According to the Mitel Interop document it lists Exchange 2010 as being compatable, with some issues, but doesn't list SP1 or anything.
Have you checked out SIP CoE 10-4940-00118 on MOL? It references MCD 4.1 but might help, though having said that you don't mention what release you are running so I assumed 5.0!

Thanks for your reply Martyn.

I agree that it is pretty silly of Microsoft to completely change the communication standards with a service pack...

We are running Exchange 2010 SP2 and Mitel 5.0 SP1.

At this point, I'd be happy to just have Exchange 2010 UM and the 3300 talking properly, and not deal with co-existence at all...it would make for a more aggressive migration...

Anyone have any good documentation about setting up the 3300 and Exchange 2010 UM?  I must be missing something...
Sip peer profile settings, etc.?

Thanks for the help.

No worries at all!

Do you have access to MOL? The KB article that I referenced above is the walk through on how to configure the SIP peer profile, Exchange, etc.

cheers

well, I found part of the problem:

filtering out the G.722.1 codec on the 3300 fixed the issue so that 3300 and the 2010 can talk to each other...

Co-Existence still doesn't work...so I'll keep looking at that.

This is where the problem lies, on the redirect to the 2007 server:

The call for 'testuser@contoso.net' isn't supported on this server. The call was redirected to Unified Messaging server 'Exch2007Server.contoso.net'.

The 3300 doesn't handle the redirect to the 2007 server...it just reconnects to the 2010 server...then loops indefinitely...

I know that this thread is old, but I had Exchange 2007/2010 Coexistence working until we decommissioned our 2007 UM server recently.   I still have a lot of the configuration documented.  Let me know if I can help.
