Define what you mean by "Phantom Calls"

Hi Ralph,
I mean inbound calls with no ID caller on display that as you pick up the handset you hear just silent !!!
Phantom calls are randomly occur and they're often on attendant console .

What type of trunks are connected to the system?
As these are often to the Operator, have they logged on what trunknumber these calls get presented?

Is there anything on the display?  A trunk label or trunk number?
You may have to read through your smdr logs to see if the call hit auto attn 1st or isn't disconnecting properly from the last call it was on.
Where's it ringing to?  An extension or the operators desk?

Could be the trunk isn't disconnecting from a previous call.
Try this:  Call in on the trunk.   Have the person that answered just hang up on you.  You stay on the line.
See if it rings back to the operator or auto attendant.

Hmm that gives me an idea for a problem that I'm having at the moment with one customer! They get one or two rings, and then the call stops. Given that it's so quick, they don't usually get the chance to see a number that is calling.

That could also be a trip ring on the LS trunks. If you have some sort of surge protection on the trunk I would look there and if that isn't it I would see if you have the same problem with only a butt set connected to the trunk (then let your provider know they need to fix it).

There was a bug once in an old version of software where the embedded VM would ring the operators phone and disconnect.

I can rule that one out as there are only SIP trunks on the system.  :)

Digital trunks is better ;) Try to capture the ringing with a CCS trace to see where or what is doing this.

SIP trace will do the trick, but I'm hesitant to beleive all of what is being reported so want to understand what happens first in this instance before going off on a wild goose chase.  :)

We got the same symptoms on our system - turned out to be a analog port had been patched out for a Polycom conferencing unit but someone had plugged their PC into it - was causing phantom calls just like you said
