Mitel 5312: Headset setup
« on: January 31, 2012, 01:00:03 PM »
I have been trying to get a headset working with this model of IP Phone. I have the phone setup with PoE, and it is connected with a handset, and a headset. When I attempt to use the headset, by pressing the microphone button on the top left, and call someone it does nothing. The headset does not have a dial tone coming from it when doing this. I have tried to dial 397, and 317 when the handset is down. But with no luck, it always comes up with invalid. How have any of you completed this setup? Am I overlooking something very simple here, please help!

Open Session Manager and check under:

System / Devices and Feature Codes / Feature Codes

To see if the feature code has been changed.

This phone doesn't a graphical interface to do so, are you referring to the Mitel configuration site?

Thanks for the tip NTEDave,

I had a talk with the lead system administrator for my company, and he told me how to access our PBX. I soon found the settings you were talking about. Wouldn't have done it without your help, thanks a million!

To install the headset;

1. Log on to the web interface for the PBX

2. System Administration Tool > Users and Devices > User and Device Configuration > enter in extension number, search > Double click desired extension > Keys

3. On a 'not assigned' slot change the Line Type to Headset > Save

4. That programmable key will now function as a on/off switch for the headset

That sounds like you are working on a Mitel 3300 / MCD?

Nope, it is a 5312. Its the later versions of the 5000 series that uses a touchscreen interface. This model has an online PBX to configure the phone with.

Actually a 5312 phone and be used on either the Mitel 5000 or a 3300/MCD system.

The menu structure of:
2. System Administration Tool > Users and Devices > User and Device Configuration > enter in extension number, search > Double click desired extension > Keys

Is actually that of a Mitel 3300/MCD PBX, not the 5000.
