No Overtime for IT Wokers
« on: December 09, 2011, 08:01:11 AM »
This is bad news even for us the in telecom industry.

Here in the US a Senator is proposing cutting all overtime pay for IT workers.
Now before you say "I'm in telecom not in IT." just remember that everything we touch now is on servers and reading the proposal it looks like it you work on servers you'll be included.

Here's the link for the related Info World article:

So what is going to happen when all the IT people leave the virus sitting at 5 when they hit their 8 hours? I know my family will enjoy seeing more of me.

Exactly my thought.
Same with down PBX systems.

I would think people are going to be getting a big salary increase or they'll be hiring more people to fill in the after 40 hours time slot.

Many systems Engineers, Network Engineers, and Systems Administrators are already classed as "exempt" and aren't eligible for overtime.

At one time in our office our data techs were 'salaried with OT'.
I've no idea what the difference was between that and straight hourly with OT but they were happy.
