Clarification on license usage
« on: October 12, 2011, 06:54:04 AM »
Hello

My understanding on licence usage is as follows.

Each physical device requires an IP User licence.  This licence is consumed as soon as the physical device is configured in the system?  Or only when device is in service?

A hotdesk agent or traditional agent consumes a licence when it logs in and this licence is released when the agent logs out?

A hotdesk user consumes an IP User licence at the point it is created on the switch?  Or the point at which the user logs into a host device?

Angus

What software release are you running as there have been some changes in the licensing scheme over the last couple of years.

As of MCD they converted the licensing it use to take a device and user license in MCD you are correct that a device now takes a user license however there are a couple way to make a user and device.

Device and User - 1 license
Device Only - 1 license
Hot Desk User - 1 license

So in this instance a hot desk user sitting at a device is essentially taking 2 licenses. You correct on Agents such as ACD they are concurrent licenses meaning when a user logs in they consume a license and when they log out the license is free. Hope I said all that clearly. There is a lot to licensing and it has undergone multiple changes.

The device licensing uses the license even if the device is in service or out of service. Within 4.2, you can set the devices to device only which does not take a license but you have to login using hot desking account to use the phone and it's features (Excludes calls to the operator and emergency services)

With the Traditional licenses a license is consumed on programming the ACD device the login are restricted to these devices. Hot Desk ACD agents can login to Hot Desk enabled phone and an ACD license is consumed upon login.
