Mitel Unified Communicator Express questions
« on: June 14, 2011, 11:50:32 AM »
We are going to be using the Mitel Unified Communicator Express throughout our company.  I see there is a way to do a mass deployment, however in the instructions there is no mention of the settings on the phone.

I have a few questions:

-How you I turn on PC connectivity in the phone settings?

-How can i enable/change the password on the phone?

-Could i have each phone with a different password?  By using a CSV file or another process?

Thanks for any assistance!

-Evan

I don't think there is an automated way to change the physical phones options like that.   Turning no PC Connectivity, and changing the password happen in the same local menu on the phone, which is then stored locally I assume in its VRAM.

To get to this menu on your 53XX phone sets: press your Blue Applications Key --> select settings --> look for PC Connectivity.

My guess is Mitel did it this way to add a physical layer of security for the user, so not just anybody can use any instance UCX, connect to any phone, control it and mess with buttons, etc.

Just make sure to setup DN2IP so you don't have to manually associate each Extension to it's IP - it'll look it up in the 3300.   Makes Mass Deployment a lot less time consuming, and saves you from having to run around and fix each UCX if your DHCP leases ever reset.

yea...i was looking into that.  But it didn't seem to work.  Any idea what the default password is?  I was using 1111 for the DN2IP

Don't use the default.

Setup a new admin policy called DN2IP.  Give it Default of No Access.  Scroll over to IP Telephones - All and give it Read Only

Setup a new authorization profile (login) to your 3300 - call it DN2IP - give it password DN2IP.  Assign it the new DN2IP admin policy.

Now you can share this login, with no fear of it getting into your 3300.  If someones tries to actually login to the 3300 with it, they will only see the IP Telephones form and don't have any write access - so big deal...

Is that something that can be shared on a clustered system?  Or each 3300 needs its own DN2IP account?

It will share if you use SDS and have those forms selected to share between clustered nodes.

By default if you have SDS those forms are selected as shared.

hello kurt,

I have followed your instructions above on how to set this up but everytime I click on the Test button in configuration it comes back with this message after a short delay:

Name: Work
IP or DN: 620
PC Connectivity password: ****
Mitel 3300 ICP IP: 172.016.010.002
Mitel 3300 ICP user name: DN2IP
Mitel 3300 ICP password: *****

Querying 172.016.010.002
IP lookup returned: OK - InService
172.16.10.41
The phone rejected the connection.
Please verify that the phone's PC connectivity is correctly configured and
that another PC is not connected to it.

I have setup the phone as outlined in the instructions with a password. Still no joy. Any ideas?

Gareth

Gareth,

the things to check are:

1) Make sure you enabled PC Connectivity on the set you are trying to connect to
2) Make sure it is a 53XX Series Phone
3) Make sure of the PC Connectivity password, it is Case Sensitive.  Default PW is MitelPcConnect
4) Make sure you aren't already connected to the phone with any other UCx, UCadvanced, or YA installations.

Hi guys,

wondering if you can help me.
I have had a mitel system installed but the company cannot get the UCX to work at all.
Im just wondering if people may have any other suggestions for me to try?

Here is some info.

The DN2IP account is setup exactly as the IT guide says so.
The PC connectivity is ticked and the password is known.
Port 5060 is open on the phone and port 5060 and port 80 is open on the MXE.
I can ping the MXE and the phone.
No ports are blocked on the firewall.

However everytime I get the following:

IP lookup returned OK - InService
The phone rejected the connection.
Please verify that the phone's PC connectivity is correctly configured and that another PC is not connected to it.

I have tried different phones on different PC's and using the phones IP address instead of the DN but i still get an error.

Im just wondering if anyone may have some fresh ideas for me to try!!

Thanks.

basic question:

did you enable PC Connectivity through the 53XX phone?

Press the Blue Key --> Settings --> PC connectivity

Also why do you have a firewall between your PC/Phone/3300?  Or is this a PC Based software firewall?

Hi Kurtz thanks for replying so quick.
Yes the pc connectivity is on and the password has been reset.

The firewall is not between the MXE and the phones but my PC goes through the firewall. However no ports are locked down and I can telnet to ports 5069 and 80 which are the only ports UCE needs apparently.

Do you have a proxy server set in your Browser?  We had to set a bypass up for our ICP's to enable the DN2IP to work.
