MiVB 8 to 10 upgrade path
« on: October 29, 2024, 08:04:13 AM »
The Migration Guidelines for 10.1 don't explicitly say, but I am inferring that it is possible to go from 8.0 to 10.1 without passing through 9.x on the way. Is that correct?

Look at the release notes for 10.0 and 10.1.

You can go from MiVB 8.0 to MiVB 10.0 but not straight to 10.1. You need to upgrade to a version lower than 10.1 first.

10.0 Release Notes
1.   For upgrades from pre-MiVB 9.0, migration tool must be used for software upgrade to MIVB 9.0 up to MiVB 10.0 SP2.

10.1 Release Notes
1.   For upgrades from MiVB 8.0 or less, migration tool must be used for MiVB 9.0 or higher upgrade. Note: Migration is not supported to MiVB 10.1. Migrations must be completed to pre 10.1 and then upgraded to 10.1.

You have to use the Migration Tool to go from 8.1 to 9.0 first, then you can upgrade to whatever...

The OS has to to be upgraded to Linux going from 8 to 9 and the partitions reformatted and boot code changes completely... it's changes a ton of stuff under the hood, it's all automated but takes some time.

There is no way to go to any version above 9 from any version below 9 directly, you must go to 9 first.

That explains why there is no Migration Tool download for 10.1 but there is for 10.0.

Really?!?! Dang... I have been away from these things for too long. We used to support ~100 of these years ago, I think we have less than a half dozen left, and just lost another one. Only touch them a few times a year these days. 98% of all the telephony work we do these days is with our hosted product.

Yeah, same here really, a dwindling number of MiVB customers left, basically only customers who are too indecisive to do anything!

Sorry but no intention to hijack this thread. Just that topic is related to my question. But what would be the best way to migrate (replace) MiVB using an old CX controller to EX + AG41XX? I don't know the version of the current system running on the CX but I'm assuming it is old.
My training only started from V10.0 and I'm only familiar with the VA, EX-Controller, and SMBC Controller.
Is it possible to take an backup from the CX system and import that into the new MiVB on EX for a baseline to re-program?
