MiVoice Office 400 Bulk insert
« on: November 06, 2023, 08:15:53 AM »
Hello,
We have a MiVoice Office 400 (Release 7.0 HF4 - Version 9250a1 )
Now we got 100 SIP Phone 6940w and tried to bulk import them all.

According to manual we exported the data as Excel file
Configuration => Summary => Export

Then we edited the Excel file (tried 2 ways - both didn't work)
a) added 100 new lines with users (call number),devices,mac-addresses,...
b) deleted the lines of the existing devices and added only the new ones.

Now we imported the file
Configuration => Summary => Import

Import DDIs(DIDs), users, terminals,... => Select XLSM file => OK

Error message:
"An error appeared in the communication server"

Import log

Info,11.Incremental import; no data will be deleted.
Failure,8::0. No user has been found. Nothing can be imported.
Failure,18::0. Could not read file content.
Failure,6::0. Import failed.

How can you see from this error message where exactly the error is?
Is this even the right way to import users and devices?

Thank your any help.
Stefan

It might have been something you changed inadvertently on the file. You can test by adding just one new line of data to the newly exported Excel file and see if you can import it back without any error. It could give you an idea of what you're doing wrong.

One thing to note is that the cells must be formatted as text.

You could also share the file you did (with dummy data) for some of us to check.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately "...something you changed inadvertently on the file..." and "...cells must be formatted as text..." - That is not possible, the file is password locked. You can't even adjust the column width to see all content.

I followed your advise and added just 1 row and was successful. Then I could import 50 devices (MAC addresses) with dummy users.

Anyway, the design of this bulk feature is, for my opinion, very bad. The handling with an Excel file is very inconvenient.
Of course the data is available as an Excel file (mac addresses, user names, etc.).
But the import format should be a CSV file, regardless how this file is created, with predefined headers and so on.
The export Excel file is password locked and has macros active. Every time you switch to the file, the macro is executed. This takes a long time for many lines and the clipboard is also emptied.
So you can't simply copy a lot of data from another Excel spreadsheet.

Anyway, finally I was successful, and thank you for your help.

Stefan

Glad you were successful!

Some of us still dream of an offline configuration/backup viewer like the old AMS. That would make configuration and troubleshooting easier.
