SIP Trunks, ATA's, and faxing through a MiVB
« on: August 21, 2023, 01:00:15 PM »
If I'm running fax machines on ATA's through a MiVB connecting to SIP trunks, do I only need to worry about the SIP trunk provider and the ATA both being able to support G.711 pass-thru and/or T.38, or does the MiVB come in to play at all? I currently have a gateway MXE-III terminating PRI's but eventually we'd like to go to SIP trunks. I have existing Audiocodes MP-11x units running several fax lines, wondering what I'd need to mess around with to get them working on SIP trunks.

T.38 and G.711 pass-through work fine on the MiVB... with a caveat that it is a single, stand-alone system, or the entire call path is vMCD... If there is a physical controller anywhere in the call path, it must have a DSPII card to support T.38. It has supported it for a long time, I remember setting it up with SIP trunks as far back as 2016 or so, and the support was already there, we just never used it.
