Mitel Music through Phone but not on hold.
« on: July 22, 2022, 10:04:57 PM »
I'm not sure if this is possible or not so I'd like to bounce it off of everyone here.
The phones have the ability to play "music" through the speaker when idle.
What I'd like to do is rather than play music, play announcements.
What I can't have is if a phone has a trunk on hold, I can't have those announcements play to the person on hold.
I ~think~ I may be able to do that via tenanting but I'm not sure.
What do you think?

Ralph

Background music is always the default source. I also think sip trunks use it. But if you make the end users that put them on hold use their source, you should be good. On hold would be embedded source 1, change tenant 1 to use source 1. Might need to look at moh on trnsfer in cos.  Also might have a bit played during a transfer from nupoint but would start the announcement with some dead air if uploading.

Just my thoughts.

You can use Call Coverage for that.

Call Coverage?

I think you'll have to enlighten me.
How would you do that?

Put your phone on a different call coverage.  In that call coverage, select the MOH with the annoncement.  When that phone will pout a call on hold, they will hear the annoncement.

Thanks August,
The one thing I want to avoid is letting the people put on hold hear the announcements.
The announcements are for internal consumption only.
I only want the devices to be able to hear the announcements through the speakers when the music button is active.

53XX phones.

They're not automated messages. They're live market updates and they go out enterprise wide.
We have separate devices on everyone's desk that allows people to "shout out" messages. Not everyone shouts out.
I'd like to connect the Mitel to this system to play the messages through the phones so I can remove some of the devices from people's desk.

Interesting application. How many phones? Keep in mind the "music" will be a unicast RTP stream between the controller and each phone, so that's going to consume controller resources and network bandwidth. Phones will use the system MOH source, so to keep it off the trunks you'd have to change the call coverage and/or zone settings for the trunks. Look at "Workgroup/Branch Office Music on Hold" in the on-line help to set that up; but even with that, I'm not 100% sure that will work.

Thanks Lundah,

There'd be somewhere in the range of 100 to 200 phones.

I'm not sure if it will work either. I was hoping that someone may have had some experience with setting up background music that they didn't want playing on hold.

It's just an idea I'd like to try out and perhaps present as an option. It's not something requested but something I'd like to demonstrate so if it doesn't work it's not a problem.

What if you created an ACD queue with no agents that just played the announcement?

That would work but only if the users dialed in. Announcements happen at random times.

Like I said, I did this for a site where the fire station wanted the radio to play over a couple of phones. Did it through tenant based MOH and set cos to play their source when on hold. Default MOH was the fire radio connected to a viking rad-1 with a sip ata connecting it as the moh source

So here's what I found while testing:
1 - Background music is always the default source for tenant 1.
2 - MOH is based on the tenant of the user that puts the call on hold.

So, if I want to be able to play a different source for background music then I have to be sure that everyone is moved to a different tenant that 1 then set their MOH to be something other that what I'm using for background.

Actually under the tenant form for tenant 1 you can choose embedded1 for the MOH
