Mitel 6735i SIP Phone via VPN on Mitel 430 PBX
« on: February 04, 2022, 06:16:56 AM »

Dear all,

I'm having a hard time getting a 6735i SIP Phone registered at my Mitel 430 PBX

A Mitel 5370 IP Phone registers itself right away without any problem.
Situation:
My business location hosts the PBX and the Phones are located at my home location.
Both locations are connected via VPN and proper funcion is confirmed by the  5370 Phone working nicely.

The install guide says: 6735 SIP Phone factory reset and then just enter the configuration server IP (the PBX) and TFTP Protocol
At the PBX just list the phone with its MAC address.

Result: after the phone restarts is only says "Log In" ... providing the User ID and Password stored in the server gives "Authorization failed".

What am I doing wrong?

BR
Ralf

What SW version is your M430?
Is the Mitel SIP terminal created at the PBX side and is it for a different user from the 5370?
What password are you using? It should be the "Registration Code" after the terminal is created.

Thanks for responding!

My M430 is running on Release 6.1 and yes: the Phone is created as Mitel SIP 6735 Terminal together with its MAC Address.
With this method I never had to provide any SIP Username or SIP Password. The phone automatically connects to the PBX and gets all its configuration from there.
I only tried to enter the Username and Password stored in the PBX for this terminal at the Terminal Log In Prompt - which doesn't work.

Sorry, missed that you mentioned you are using MAC method.
You could try again but delete the MAC, then try the registration code instead. If that doesn't work, cycle back to the MAC method.
You could also do a VoIP trace to see what is happening during registration.

....after MANY rounds of trial & error I can confirm this is working now.

However: I wasn't able getting automatic configuration download to work and had to maneuver myself through all the settings of the phone until it worked.

So Mitel SIP Phone even works on a Mitel 430 when a VPN connection is in between. Worth to mention: no need to do special settings (Port forwarding etc) on the routers.

Thanks for your help anyway.
