I got an error message indicating that all External Hot Desk User licenses were used up when trying to add a user and when I checked the License and Option Selection form, it indicated the following for External Hot Desk Users:

Available for Allocation: 20
Locally Allocated: 0

So I clicked Change, then modified Locally Allocated to 20, and got the following message:

"The allocation of 'External Hot Desk Users' will start a 'Try Before You Buy' trial.
You will have '60 Days' left in the trial.
Please purchase the license at the end of the trial."

Why is it that although 20 licenses are available for allocation, these licenses are not available?

Hey,
Mitel allow you to trial licensed features this way for a period of 60 days before the system would go into license violation.
There are 20 available to trial that you could then purchase within this time frame.
The customer/system doesn't actually have any EDHU licenses so you would need to purchase them for long term use.
