5320 display as a 5340, very odd!
« on: December 05, 2018, 03:00:55 PM »
So I have a new odd ball situation.  I was changing a 5320 to a Hot Desk extension, and now the 5320 display looks like a 5340.  I just happened to look at the back and see the bar code tag says 5340, very odd!  I probably defaulted the phone at some point while changing the phone to a Hot Desk.  The phone is probably five to six years old, so out of warranty.  I wonder if Mitel would fix the problem since the front says 5320, there aren't any buttons on the right side of the display and the back says 5340?

Any suggestions?

Jeff

JeffonJohnsIsland,

A 5320 and a 5340 look completely different in the softkey area. The little placard on the top is removable and not a reliable source of information so most technicians just look at the phone itself or the back when trying to figure out what version it is 5330 or 5330e for example.

The 5320 has a black bezel and only a row of keys on the left hand side of the screen and the top 3 keys do not even light up.

The 5340 on the other hand has a silver bezel and a row of keys on the left and right hand sides of the screen. The top3-4 keys on both sides are context sensitive keys; meaning they change based on the state of the phone.

Thanks,

TE

TE,

Thanks for your response.

The Problem Child phone doesn't have any buttons on the right of the LCD, the LCD display is not back lighted, has black plastic surrounding the LCD.  Seems like a 5320 to me.  Problem Child was working as a 5320 on a desk next to me, with the LCD showing words for only the left side.

It's really odd to me that it's display is for a 5340, and the back has a bar code tag which says 5340.

Maybe I will have a discussion with the company who services and sold us the system.

Thanks,

Jeff

JeffonJohnsIsland,

That is an odd one and since it is refurbished it seems they mixed and matched parts incorrectly.

Odd,

TE,

It is odd.  To add further to the mystery, it was working fine since 7/12 (tag on back with installation company name), a date the installer sold it to us.  I suspect when I defaulted the phone, it changed some setting saying it's a 5320.

I haven't seen this sort of problem before, but with my experience limited to one company, that's not surprising.

I don't think it's refurbished, or at least I don't think it was sold to me as refurbished.  If the installation company won't do anything with it, might be kind of fun to take a 5340 with a bad LCD and see if the LCD from the "5320" (working like a 5340) would work in the 5340 with a bad LCD. I winder if real 5320 just don't power the LCD's and the LCD's are the same as in a 5340.  Who knows!

Take care,

Jeff

JeffonJohnsIsland,

I would say that when you defaulted the phone you removed the software load and it download the 5340 software load, since that is what it thinks it is. The phones are all pretty much the same on the inside and they just make them different by adding some missing RAM and a couple of other chips on their board. The 5320 on the MCD does behave similar to a 5340 with a context menu on top so which is why the top 3 buttons don't have lights in them.

If you could force the phone to use the firmware version of 5320 off of the system that would be for the best, but I am not sure how you would be able to make that happen of the top of my head. Even if you did the next time it talked to the system it would probably download the 5340's firmware again.

Odd,

TE

What key map are you using for that phone.  I would go to key assignments and create a key map template just for 5320 phone and add that extension to it.
