Mitel 6940 problem "Current Call Server IP Address"
« on: September 16, 2018, 02:20:40 PM »
Guys,
Recently I had to upgrade a server from MCD 6.0 to MCD 8.0 (14.0.0.97 to be more specific) for a client.
We have a combines of 52XX series, 5360, 6863i (configuring as sip) and 6940. Everything goes fine until it comes to configuring 6940 as MiNET.
We ran DHCP server on Cisco switches and every single of the phones got IPs and worked finely. Even all the 6940 got IPs but we have a problem.

When the phone asks for the PIN I used ***DN for registering. It looked that the phone was registered, but in the main screen I can't see any keys or dial pad. I couldn't call to any extensions and neither they could (In the "All IP Telephony" or something like that (under maintenance and diagnostic section) I can search the extension number and I see that MAC Address has been assigned onto the server but the IP filed is empty).
When I checked the "status menu" on 6940 phone I realized that there was a field named "Current Call Server IP Address" which had an IP differ than the one we have for MXe III server. Actually it had been changed after a short while for no reason.
I even try to set static IP but the same thing happened.
Do any one know the reason?
Thank you all in advance.
Cheers

I think I lost count of how many times I have run into this during upgrades... :/

I had this happen a few weeks back. I even tried statically assigning a value and the phone still had an old ip address listed as the call server. I did change the xnet/ip setting after an upgrade, but did not reboot. The upgrade was so the 6900 series phones would work. After I reboot, I had no more issues.

I'm planning to migrate my main client (cluster with 40 ICPs) from 6.0 to 8.0 very soon, are you saying the upgrade screws with network parameters ?

I've done it already in the lab (cluster with 3 ICPs) and didn't notice this behavior.

There isn't any IPxNet trunking, it's a sip trunk via MBG

Thank you all, the problem is solved!!
The problem was due to an IP problem related to Call Server IP Address.
I connected to the MXe III directly using RS-232 serial port and used "bootChange" command on vxWorks screen and rewrite all the IPs and then reboot the system(as below).

inet on ethernet (e) : 131.225.124.148:ffff0000 131.225.124.148:ffff0000
inet on backplane (b):
host inet (h)        : 131.225.121.145
gateway inet (g)     : 131.225.124.200 131.225.124.200

That's all.
cheers

No, it'll be fine.

My upgrade was done sometime after this customer changed ip addressing for their systems. After I upgraded, I checked this ip/xnet and this controller still had the old ip address in this form. I must have missed it when I changed the system ip and dhcp stuff. If this had been done prior to the upgrade, I wouldn't have had an issue. It didn't affect the 5300 phones but did the 6900's

There isn't any IPxNet trunking, it's a sip trunk via MBG
Is it networked to another Mitel? Then it has them whether you know it or not... Plus many stand-alone systems have an entry for themselves only. Make sure to update it if it's there.

It's a sip trunk to PSTN.
